Any mechanics on here?
Discussion
Afternoon chaps,
I have just acquired a Volvo C70 T5 today. I bought this car on a spur of the moment decision
There are some things wrong with it namely the power steering and I need someone to have a look at it. The aim is to fix it and use it as a run-around, I have not started the car or anything and I hope there is not too much wrong with it. I got it delivered to my home and it is sat there at the moment.
Car is located in Heaton, Bradford.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks

Have you check the basics like fluid levels?
I'm no mechanic but if it's not low then likely to be the pump. You haven't described any symptoms which would aid in the keyboard diagnosis of the problem
Good point there, I have not checked the fluid levels yet. It was the previous owner that told me the PAS pump had failed so I am going on his diagnosis. I shall do the simple checks tomorrow as a 'first port of call' for sure.I'm no mechanic but if it's not low then likely to be the pump. My plan is to get an expert to check what needs fixing before I throw any money at it. Once I have a definite list of faults I can then set about getting them rectified.
Thanks

If your just after a reasonable priced and decent mechanic to give it the once over then I can reccomend M&G in Bradford. Used them for quite a few years now and they have been spot on. http://www.mgandroverspecialists.co.uk/

Horse & stable door springs to mind.If the previous owner said it's the pump, it probably is and they're probably expensive.
Best of luck Sir!
I suppose it's value vs cost to repair: If you've got the car for peanuts then it's worthwhile sorting it out and using it

Great advice gentleman.
A bit of background on the car. I bought the car without seeing it and I had it delivered to me on a flatbed lorry.
The car is a C70 2.3 5 cylinder Turbo - T5 Variant.
I have never started it and it was delivered yesterday. The previous owner thought the alternator was the problem but then traced the problem to the PAS pump or something.
The car idles but is not drivable. There maybe other things wrong with it but I don't mind putting some money into it. I bought the car for very little with the intention of getting it running and using it.
My main concern is, I know nothing about the Volvo 5 cylinder unit hence my request for an experienced mechanic to glance over it and point me in the right direction.
Perhaps it is best that I enlist the help of a local independent mechanic to give the C70 a once over first then? I thought it would be best to ask on here first mind
Gib786 - the Rover Coupe Turbo has been 5+ years of development and is now a very well sorted car indeed. That car has been built mainly for track use and has genuine 'Roversport' race car components on it.

When you say its not drivable, why not? Even if the PAS pump was kaput you should still be anbe to drive it, just with very heavy steering
I may be wrong on this but I think the PAS pump runs on a belt which also runs off a pulley that has so something to do with the alternator. They are all linked... I have not had a chance to look at the car properly yet though.

Hi JayIt is a 2000 W Registration C70 2.3 T5. There are a few things wrong with it. If you could cast an expert eye over it that would be splendid.
Car is in BD9.
