Hi All,

Can anyone tell Me where the best place is to get onto the Spen Valley cycle path? Its the old Spen Valley railway line I believe. I want to get on at either end and cycle the whole length and back so somewhere in the middle is no good! Also where does it start & end & how long is it?

Cheers

I think it runs from ravensthorpe to low moor/oakenshaw.just don't go on when it's getting dark. There is loads of place's to get on but I'm not 100% sure Its all back open as they were doing some pipeworks and shut most of the greenway off.

I think it's all opened back up now, they were laying some pipe work earlier this year. We live just beside it but in the middle really. I join it at the end of Headlands road Liversedge, there is a small parking area on the corner where it meets with Halifax road ( near scrap yard).
As stated, it goes from the canal/river connecting point just passed Ravensthorpe and finishes some where around low moor.
If you're on a bike or indeed walking watch for dog poo on the path, not nice when it gets in your tyres.
It's probably about 4+ miles long, what I sometimes do is follow it past ravensthorpe and it drops down to join the tow path of the canal, I follow that to Horbury bridge.
Cheers. Dunx.

Ah my area at last.

It's now opened up again fully but you have a huge green sthole pipe running most of the length.
As other said try avoid the lower half of the greenway after dark, but any other time should be fine.

How about starting at the Dewsbury end and peddling up to Bradford?
When I used to cycle it I found it so much easier peddling up hill then sauntering back down.
There's a bit of waste ground at Burgh mill lane where you maybe able to park your car or if not the main road then unload your bike.
