None that I know of - kwikfit usually do a 1/2 price but its tied up to a service this year. Airdie car solutions (google that) - or something like that are doing a recharge for 45 quid and calling it 1/2 price!

Alrighty, I'm thinking of investing in the equipment to do this; not just to recharge, but also to carry out diagnostics on all aircon systems. I will also be able to do classics, as, unless they are modified with new, modern seals, cannot take the modern gasses used in today's vehicles.

I need to do a bit of market research to find out how many of you would be likely to use this service, because it's a substantial investment and needs to pay for itself.

I know of no one in the Glasgow area that can do this. Kwik fit incidentally only do a recharge on modern vehicles. They cannot diagnose or do older stuff.

Let me know lads.

James.

As you say I have had to go across the country to get my system sorted out. From the runs I know of at least a few west coast guys with fecked aircon systems who may use local services and for the other 911 drivers its only a matter of time as Porsche design these systems to fail.

I don't think it's as empty a marketplace as you think TBH.

Klimacool are well known and regarded, and also a friend of mine has used AG Barr Auto Electrics before for air con fault finding and repair, so although the default, due to marketing, is to think 'kwik fit', there are some decent specialist bods in the central belt anyways who can help.

Unless I had a fleet operator looking to throw a contact at me, I'd not be investing thousands in the gear right now when there is so much expertise out there within a 70 mile radius.

I have just had my system leak fixed and charged by Mark at Autokool who did a top job.
07770732325
He was recommended by Peter at Motortune and will travel to your home or business.
Leave a message on his mobile.
If you want tell him Barry with the silver C4S gave you the recommend.

When you say older stuff, do you mean R12 which is now illegal? Mine is R12 and I need my compressor changed, well I need the bearings in the compressor changed. I have been told that I need to convert to new gas at a cost of £2500.

Ah well, this is the question. If I invest in this equipment it will enable me to install a hybrid gas that is legal to run in older systems as a replacement to R12, but will not damage the seals and ancillaries of the vehicle. The gas is more expensive, but is a damn sight cheaper than replacing half your aircon system!

This is why I want some feedback as to likely response for this service.

Yeah they won't let you refill with R12 anymore

"Isceon 49 or RS-24 (R12 was used up to October 2000 but its use is now illegal) is used for vehicles up to 1993, later vehicle use R134. Refrigerants must never be mixed or cross-contaminated *.

  • R12 gas is illegal but can be found in even new cars systems if an infected recharging system was used. Our system checks for these gases before starting any service or recharge so that it does not get infected and therefore spread R12 infection to other vehicles as this can invalidate a warranty and at worse cause air conditioning system failure.

hey guys just noticed this post. s2red, also just got your email, so look for a reply in a minute

i will have plenty offers on over the summer, one just now is free diagnostics of any vehicle or agri a/c system at my base in springkerse stirling.

i saw a post of an older style a/c system, you dont need a complete overhaul to the new gas from r12, r413a, a substructure gas of tetraflourethane (r134a) can be used with a differnet oil set. once pump is sorted and no leaks confirmed i can do you a re-charge no problem at all.

my number is 07773038699 to anyone requiring or send me an email, just moved house so got internet going and can reply quicker than the recent few days turnaround.

if you cant get me, as sp autobahn man said call my collegue mark on 07770732325 and he'll give you a slot in my diary. he owns autokool and when we split he took the bus side of things and i stuck with the cars.

at the moment mobile offers are
astra/zafira all models condensers £195+vat
mondeo/focus all models condensers £195+vat
porsche condensers, one at each corner at front style non turbo pair £375+vat turbo pair £395+vat
merc c class condenser with or without cooler £245+vat

piston heads quote on time of order guarantees this price all through the summer and will give you 15% off any other price required.

and as a special extra pistonheads offer, i'll knock a further £15 off each price if the job is done at my workshop in stirling
