He is doing well all things considered although it will all take time. He has started physio and over the last week has been allowed out of bed to sit on a seat. Progress for sure. I'm not signed up for the other site so I will post here when there are updates. I see him 2 or 3 times a week (he's my boss as well as a good friend).

Sorry folks, just noticed this ...
First of all, thanks for all the kind thoughts. It really does mean a lot.
Saturday was twelve weeks since the event.
I was in ARI for about six weeks. I then had a couple of weeks at Woodend to prepare me for getting home.
I'm still at home and, if I could, I'd be climbing the walls. It's a case of cabin fever plus groundhog day ... x10.
I'm also concerned that Steph may murder me soon ... although she'll be totally justified if or when she does.
I'm still in a wheelchair all the time but expect to start "intensive" physio this week ... and see what the world looks like from 173cm for the first time in a wee while.
I could only get the green light to start this physio when I'd had a review to assess my readiness for "weight bearing". This was last Tuesday and all was well. Here are a few images of the x-rays ...
Right elbow ...

Left leg ...

Right heel ...

Right heel and left leg ...

This physio is apparently going to be seriously hard work and initially quite painful but I can't wait ... bring it on! It'll be residential at Woodend, certainly for the first while.
No idea how long the whole process will take but I can assure you it won't be prolonged due to me not putting in the effort.
I have no clue as to the cause of the accident. It's a hill I've driven in competition maybe 150 times and I'll drive it again.
Current plan is that I'll be out in a new single seater during 2012 but not working for a significant amount of time means that I'll have to see how the finances are.
Nae doubt I'll catch up with many of you before too long.
John (dycecooper) - if you're passing, nip in for a cup of tea ... but please give me a call first as some days aren't too good.
Same applies to anyone else.
Cheers,
Eric

If its any comfort my sons elbow looks a bit like that, obviously not as bad, he split his elbow and broke upper bone in arm which punched through skin £1000 worth of titanium 2 plates dozen screws and 9 months later he was golfing

Thanks man Can see airport security will be fun for the future!!
... however ... it's all stainless (316) and I'd have thought that you of all people would have understood the principles of commonly used technology incorporating magnetometers.
Cheers,
Eric

With a bit of luck they'll use an FMD unit and find where the hollow bits used to be!!!
Let us know when you have your "coming out" party!!
having a leg that looks like a mechano set myself, i can confirm modern security scanners at airports are no problem, saying that i still carry a letter in my passport.
Good luck with the recovery eric, its a long slog but once you start to get mobile the recovery goes in leaps and bounds (not literally) it took me 4 years to recover but now you wouldn't notice the amount i cost the nhs.
