Hi,

Sorry for the questions in my first post, but someone at my work recommended I come on here to ask advice.

I'm looking to get my alloys refurbished on my car. They are 18 inch BMW wheels.

Are there any recommendations in the Edinburgh area?

I've had a look on google but to be honest I'm no further forward. So far I've seen Hot Wheels in Newbridge and The Wheel Specialist in South Gyle, both offering alloy wheel refurbishment. These are probably the easiest for me to get to.

Any feedback on either of these two? Or anyone else you could recommend

As I say sorry for all the questions.

Craig

I'd recommend Newlife also. They did an excellent job of mine.

Oh, and welcome smile

I would not touch new life with a barge pole, unless you want a Top class *ucking about.

read on....

Well.........the wheel saga..

I went in the E92M3 to n**life in edinburgh as my mate gets a lot of stuff done there,

SO, i say to the man on reception can you do those in gloss black please? Reply? Yes sir, no problem, will look great powder coated black,

Fine say i, i will book the car in when i go offshore and the mrs will drop the car off, Fine says him...

fast forward two weeks, I go offshore and say to mrs book the car in and all will be well....

Mrs phones up N** LIFE and says i would like to bring my boyfriends E92M3 in to have the wheels done black, No problem says the man, Can you bring in it IN TWO WEEKS?

Mrs says he is offshore so no problem though i was surprised at the lead time,

Mrs drives the E92M3 up to n**life at 8am with the same guy on reception as requested, then gets the bus right across town to here work,

25 Mins later she gets a call from N*w life, " Its an E92M3!! " says mr n** life,

Well spotted says Mrs,

Mr N** Life then says i cant do it just now, bring in back in FOUR WEEKS!!! and can you come and pick it up please?

Mrs picked it up after work and getting a taxi across town,

So now getting them done elsewhere with no drama at all!!

Moral of the story? AVOID N** Life Tires in Edinburgh unless you want a Right *ucking around...

I am STILL angry!!!

powdertec in Glasgow.

Read my own thread, they made a superb job of my 2 piece Porsche wheels recently, strip, including repairs to 2 of the titanium bolts that hold the wheel sections together, hand polishing of the outer rim,to a mirror finish and black chrome powdercoat to the centres and regular silver to the inner section.

Thanks for the replies, after a bit of searching around Hot Wheels reviews seem to be a bit hit or miss. I'm going to give the Wheel Specialist a phone on monday. Any one used them?

I used Eastern Western Accident Repair Centre, in Edinburgh to refurbish my F430 and Scuderia Alloys, as they are the authorised Ferrari Paintshop in Scotland and they did a top job....I knew they were great with bodywork and paintwork, but was equally impressed by their Alloy Wheel service, speak with Peter O'Malley, General Manager...fantastic bloke!

Just a quick update. I phoned the wheel specialist on monday morning and booked the car in for thursday. Car can be done in same day but it suited me to drop car off wednesday evening and collect thursday evening so I could avoid travelling into edinburgh in the morning rush hour. Arrived at their unit and met Colin (the owner) nice guy who showed me the silver match for my wheels and also a range of other silvers and colours that I could choose from. I was tempted to go for gunmetal but decided to play safe and stick with original finish.

With the hard bit done we chatted while I waited on my lift, seems a really good set up and put me at ease a little about whether or not I had made the right decision.

Got a phone call early thursday afternoon to say car was ready and I could pick up anytime. So managed to scheme off work early and headed down to get it.

I honestly fon't know how they did it, but I could swear they were different wheels. All the kerb scrapes had been removed and the finish was outstanding. I really didn't think that they would be transformed in such a way. Only thing wrong with the wheels was the centre caps which were looking a bit shabby now against the wheels. Thankfully they hadn't refitted them as they were so bad and advised me to pick up a new set off ebay as putting them back on would taint the look and for the sake of another £15 it was a no brainer.

Honestly really pleased and I can't recommend The Wheel Specialist enough. If anyne is thinking about alloy refurbishment then you won't go far wrong here.

Only wish I had been bold enough to go with the gunmetal finish as there was an Audi in having his wheels done in that colour and they looked superb. Maybe next time!

Thanks
Craig
