I'm up in Scotland in two weeks time and will be driving from Dundee to Mull/West coast for a 3 day stay with my wife and son and I am looking for a nice place to stay/eat at in the Mull area? Any ideas greatly recieved, Ta.

For eating I can fully recommend the Galleon Grill in Tobermory.
Massive and very tasty, locally sourced steaks.

Also if you like fresh seafood there is a shop on edge of the town called the fish place. We got a kilo of mussels and 6 large scallops for £10.

Never stayed in a Hotel on Mull so can't help there, sorry.

For Staying (in the countryside):

Tiroran House Hotel
Glengorm Castle (luxury B&B)

If you want to be staggering distance from a pub:

Tobermory Hotel
Highland Cottage
Strongarbh House
Park Lodge

For Eating:

Galleon Grill as above
MishDish (sister of the Grill)
Cafe Fish
Mediaterannea (in Salen)

Cheers, Duncan (Mull-exile!)

P.S. for driving...

B8073 Tobermory to Dervaig. Record is (I think) 6m24sec.

Actually, I hear the Bellachroy Hotel in Dervaig is really good, not been for years tho

I second the Mediterannea and add the fish and chip van on the pier - it's the only van I know of with a 'Les Routiers' award.

For accommodation I'll throw in the Glenforsa - I've not stayed there but have eaten and if nothing else the fact it's got an airfield outside the bar counts for me smile

I've been to the Western Isles in Tobermory, again I didn't stay but it certainly looked a good place.

Duncan, are you up for the rally this year?

YOU BET!!

Regs are out tomorrow, Entries open on 14th August. A totally new stage down at Bunessan and a 21-miler on each leg. Can't wait!

I'll be navigating for Doug Weir again in the Mk2.

Years ago I was acting as a service car on the rally. I was at Tobermory when I got a shout over the CB that the rally car had broken down. So I set off (in my E21 323i)to render assistance.........

For some reason I managed to pass two competing cars before Dervaig confused

Then there was the emergency parts delivery run from the ferry at Craignure to Tobermory. Some records were broken that day wink

Am Birlinn restaurant is on this road too. Stopped there last week and it was fantastic. I'll definitely be going again when we are back on Mull next.

Stayed at Tobermory hotel, great food, nice owners, lovely view, and great location.

Fraser, that's a couple of miles into the Calgary stage. My first 'proper' stage commander job was running Calgary smile

If you're back in October let me know hehe
