Hi all,

Following my last thread about supercar friendly hotels, I wanted to ask whether anyone knows of a suitable venue which could accommodate a supercars and coffee meet', preferably near Loch Lomond? Sorry but my local knowledge is appalling!
I run a supercar owners club and we are coming up to Scotland on mass however it would be really nice to meet up with some local owners of sports and supercars on the Sunday. Ideas anyone? Would be even better if this this venue could also accommodate some enthusiasts as I know I promised a few of you a poke around the Veyron smile

Thanks in advance
Adam

Hi, There is Cameron House ( http://www.devere.co.uk/our-locations/cameron-hous... ) which was used last year for the Evora press day.

It's stretching the "near Loch Lomond" part, but the only other place apart from Cameron House* I can think of is Mar Hall, Bishopton.

Mar Hall

  • I actually think Cameron House is over-rated & IME, avoid using it during school holidays...

The 2 obvious ones are the Cameron House Hotel and Duck Bay marina (it's really just a restaurant now, the marina is round the corner), both off at the same crappy junction just after the end of the dual carriageway on the A82. Nearly as obvious is the Carrick Golf course and spa, which has a fair few Astons there at any one time, but has some very low speed bumps to contend with.

Avoid the Inverbeg Inn further up - partly because the food, bar the fish and chips, is pretty rubbish, but also because the car park isn't particularly set out, being on a steep slope, potholes and full of people who can't park.

You could also ask at Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch to have part of a car park sectioned off for your use. There's a load of cafes and restaurants down there for you.

Suspect if you're going for location for photo shoots, you might be as well using Duck Bay, or heading up the other end of the loch to Tarbet.

Slightly further afield - 1)the Village Inn in Arrochar - small car park, great pub, great food, great views, some potholes. 2) Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, about 10 miles down from the Rest and Be Thankful. Brilliant all round for everything, but not close to Glasgow. 3) Portavadie marina, near Tigh na bruich. Good at everything, but not close to anywhere in particular. 4) Inveraray - nice castle there, some prospect of phots and a large council car park that could be sorted for your use. Great whisky shop and a top top food spot in the George Hotel there.

There are a few places along the other side of loch lomond, mainly the big hotel at Rowardennan, but that's a bh of a road with st loads of potholes and a lot of cars / caravans that will come at you on your side of the road.

Plenty of space and accessibility at Lomond Shores, Balloch but limited views of Loch Lomond.

Also, I can recommend Ross Priory by Gartocharn.

If you're looking for something away from the main part of loch lomond (A82) Ross Priory on the Rowardennan side is probably not a bad shout http://www.strath.ac.uk/rescat/rosspriory/
Not sure if you have to book it out but it would certainly be a lot more private.

Thank you for all your replies, it is really appreciated smile Once we decide on a venue I will put a thread up here as it will be really nice to open this up to a few PHers too!

Ross Priory isn't actually open to the public, it's also a popular wedding venue so it would need to be booked if it was to be used so maybe not practical. There is also the boathouse at cameron house which is a nice location with ample safe parking.

If you go a little futher north like half an hour from Loch lomand and a nice drive. Lochgoil head is stunning and lots of room in the car park at the hotel.

The only draw back is a single track road but it's not too bad i can take the Cerbera down it at locals pace wink

We can offer accommodation and secure private car parking ( where I park the 996tt) if that's any use. However were not all that big, we can accommodate up to 16 people and can park between 9-12 cars. Some in a secure area , some not. We do Coffee's etc as well. However it would be best to contact me directly to discus if we are suitable.

Another alternative is the hotel at the lake of menteith - the only lake in scotland

http://www.lake-hotel.com/gallery.aspx

heres a map showing it in relation to loch lomond:-

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Lake+of+Menteith&a...

It's also very close to the epically good "Dukes pass" road - this is still the best road i've driven in scotland (but I've not done loads!!)

My understanding is that Ross Priory is a sort of a "Club" open only to the alumni of Stathclyde Uni...but if you have one of those within your number (quite possible as you say you have some locals) it's a great venue - good food, cheap drams and a fab. view of the Loch.

The car park is tucked to the side of the building but if there's not a wedding on then they may be happy to have pics taken in front of the building itself. This is a nice looking thing (although it could do with a face wash now)
