Took the old man's new focus out to break it in for him while he's on holiday. Covered a couple of hundred miles out through Lanark, Moffat, Dumfries, Leadhills and beyond.

All routes i've driven in the various Mr2's over the last few years.

It was slightly moist and absolutely drenched in places and it's a brand new car so was keeping the revs down.

Holy moly though, what fun i had! No more nervous twitching mid corner, barrel in as quick as you like, hold the line and get back on it at the apex.

I was carrying just as much, if not more speed through the corners than i could in the Mr2. The whole setup just inspires confidence. I can only imagine what that chassis is like with RS levels of go.

I've not had that much relaxed fun on a Hoon since i had my old Pug 205Mi.

I really think i need another small, light FWD hatch to go with my next proper car purchase. I'm beaming biggrin

is your dad a ph member ?

better hope he does not read how you are driving his new car wink

my dad has a focus aswell and i am 100% sure it would hand my arse to me on a plate on a twisty road frown
it feels alot more stable going round corners compared to my barge laugh

it's amazing how well small/medium sized modern cars in general, handle the roads, i guess a combination of improved chassis design and damping technology has lead to this.

Sounds like a good run: the Focus has a rather sorted chassis.

It's funny seeing all the exotica tip-toeing around in the wet on a hoon trying to get away from little FWD hatches! biggrin

not the same in the dry, mind...

I drove nothing but small, light(ish) FWD hot hatches before my first/current RWD car, and I often lust after my old Clio 172 back. I was absolutely bricking it for the first few months in RWD - especially buying it in the middle of winter - as I was used to just chucking the car into corners and it would stick. I'm more confident in RWD now but it still puckers the arse occasionally where a FWD would give me more confidence...

Think the next run i'll have a 205 parked up at the start of the b-roads and swap to that after the '2 on the bigger open roads idea

I'll admit Lee may have come up with this idea originally a few months ago laugh

I liked my wee Abarth 500 as a fun run around, but since the 911 is off the road I've absolutely loved it, you can take real liberties with it, up something really twisty it's a hoot and would embarrass the 911!
