UPDATE aberdeen run and race 22nd october
Discussion
Right guys and gals. i need a little more commitment for this as people may have other engagements or plans etc. I wanted to start a new topic with the route plans/times etc. You don't have to do the route but im sure most will as its only 30 odd miles more than traveling direct.
the route is as below
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Westhill+AB32+...
MEETING TIME
9.30 at tesco westhill. leaving at 10am.
I need numbers of drivers before hand so please post in this thread as before.
Wet or dry the karts wll be alot of fun so i don't want to hear of any "weather permiting" entries. There is space for 39 entries
Driving standards on the run
Having just recently been on a run in which a vehical was involved in an accident (occupants ok though hospitalised) i wanted to make people aware that YOU are responsible for how you drive. The drive is not a race and there by the looks of the original list a vast variety of cars and their relative performances as well as drivers experience. Some will want to go faster than others some may well have the means to go faster than others
.
Overtaking: I have noticed on many runs that i have been on there are some dubious overtaking manoeuvers. Please think and assume a motorbiker is comming round every corner against us.
For that point id like people to split into roughy 2 groups.
The reasons being 30-40 cars makes for a heck of a convoy and not easy for people to get space to enjoy the run and or pass "slower motorists"
Faster cars first please. It would create chaos if quicker cars set off after less quick cars.
I'm not printing off maps because tbh i can't be bothered if you get lost just get to the kart track for 12.
below is copy of the original for any other information you may require.
Ok folks i have been working on this one for a while. I wanted to do it earlier than this date but this is the last slot available this year! 22nd October we would meet at the tesco in westhill as there is more space and i anticipate big numbers. We would have a small run say 80 odd miles (i have a route in mind) then end up at grampian kart club up near banff. Then we will have an afternoon karting. everyone will get 3 heats and at least 1 final. If the numbers are right they will open the clubhouse and there will be hot food all day as well as toilets and theres an outdoor grandstand. I expect people driving too close together, passing each other into corners and lots of sideways action! The event would start at 12.30 we need to finish our run by 12.

these are the karts.

this is the layout of the track.
these are nothing like the indoor stuff most will have been too they are actually reasonably quick. (45-50mph as opposed to 30mph max indoor)
Now this is a long time away but i need to judge numbers. There is no commitment at this time but i need to know roughly how many
1. drivers
2. passengers/ spectators
as the total will depend which event we go for and if the canteen will be open for us.
(All Drivers get a Final*)
£60 per head

Two or more groups is a good idea (we do the same thing on bike runs).
And some more hoon advice...
And some more hoon advice...

On another hoon thread MarkRSi said:
1. GO AT YOUR OWN PACE (aka 'Don't be a t
t' or 'No Egos') - if you want to pelt off ahead, it's your licence & safety (and anything else you might plow your 1000+kg car into). Likewise don't be tempted to chase down someone in front of you who might have more power, grip or stupid than you - most likely stupid. This is a public road, not a race(track)!! You've got no run-off and have to contend with Micra/Morris Minor/Audi/Ned/Picasso drivers, loose cows/sheep, diesel/s
t/sand covered potholed roads, plod, possible ice and snow. And let's face it you've probably got a bit less talent than Ralf Schumacher too.
2. Only overtake where you can see clearly up ahead and be wary of simply following cars in overtakes - the car in front may have more power and/or bigger gap to overtake safely, or might just be an idiot regardless (see 1, 3 and 7). Remember "Who is a greater fool - the fool of the fool who follows it?" (
Sorry
)
3. Don't be a t
t.
4. If you want to hold back to allow the guy behind to catch up please do so although this is up to you. However...
5. At junctions it would be great if you could stop safely either before or after the junction where people behind you can see where you are turning...
6. On the other hand it is probably best you don't simply blindly follow the car in front which may not even be on the run (who will get paranoid of you following him/her, call the police and drive into the policestation whereupon you'll get rogered and beaten by umpteen angry policemen with big truncheons) or have worse navigation skills than James May. If you have any questions about the route PLEASE ask!
7. No egos.
8. On the day could we share mobile numbers in case someone wants to leave early / gets lost / take a pee / ends up upside down in a field on fire etc
9. Read 10PS's thread
10. Have fun
11. Errr....

a little concerned there were near 35 drivers interested in this the first time arround. this isnt indoors where its impossible to overtake. the karts are a decent speed and the track is nearly 1km long.
would agree with you there mate we used to have a go on them after a race day think it was £10 for 10 laps and we had some ace fun on them and they do go a decent speed and the track is awesome as well 1. Slipstream 1985 - noble m12 no passenger (seat going spare btw)

I'll definitely be up in Aberdeen visiting my mate during that weekend and we'd love to come along to the karting. However it's not finacially viable as a student for me to take the car up, so it would be much appreciated if we could have some of the passenger seats going.
He lives in the area around Aberdeen Uni but we could try to get as close to Tesco as possible or to a more convenient location for anyone. I also need to confirm the money with him because as far as I know he's also a poor student
