Hi All,

My company is looking for some rooms to rent short term - does anyone know of any going?

We are looking for 3 rooms - one asap, and 2 others for 2 weeks starting on the 13th Nov.

Please let me know if you have anything!
Dan

If anyone else knows of any i've been hunting for a flatshare/flat for the last few weeks.

Or if anyone knows of any two bed flats i might be able to get a guy at work to go in on it too.

I might have a room for immediate short term let, would be mon-fri only though.

Would that be of any interest?

I was going to start my own thread but thought I'd cling on to this one!

I'll be starting a new job in a few weeks, working in Kirkhill industrial estae, next to the airport. I'll be relocating from Motherwell but not permenantly just yet. Question is where to rent? I've heard commuting on the roads from the city out to Kirkhill/Dyce can be a nightmare (1hr from docks area on a 'good' day apparently), but I'd like to be within walking distance of the centre of town for social activities ie boozing and making new mates! What's the general consensus then, city centre and put up with the drive? Or rent in Dyce where the commute would be short then just put up with the fact I'd need taxis for weekend soirees? Cycling is an option, though this time of year isn't ideal for it with weather and light issues.

Any advice would be appreciated biggrin

You could rent in town and then catch the train into Dyce every morning. There is a bus that collects from the train station and goes round Kirkhill Industrial estate. There is a bus for every train so it's pretty frequent and always punctual. I use it every now and then when I am without my car. It is £3 for a return ticket but I think you can get weekly & monthly passes for a reduced rate. This would be far far easier than driving, unless you start work very early and finish work early.

Have you thought about car parking if renting in town?

Train - definately.

Driving into Dyce is a nightmare and it becomes a real frustration after a while. As has been mentioned, get the train. 10 minutes from the centre of town to Dyce.

I get a monthly ticket which is £50 a month.

Whats happened to the traffic by the way? This past couple of weeks has been mental and is taking 1/2 hour + the usual journey time to get anywhere! This morning took me 50 minutes to get from Pitmedden to Dyce frown

That's debatable IMO. I get to dyce (bp admittedly so not that far into it) from king street in 20 mins. Leaving 6.40am and get in at bang on 7 nearly every day. Just going straight through at haudigain - and then on the way home leave dyce at 4.30 and I'm home by 5 every night, I always go down through mugiemoss and then up past station garage though on the way home - never go to haudigain in the evening.
You might be able to get a ride with someone though or some companies have buses - keep your options open is all I'm saying.

im no expert on aberdeen, but from what i've seen in the last few months, if you live in the middle of town you usually sacrifice parking, on the outskirts, you get parking but harder to go out, saying that public transport seems good. I would look for something on the outskirts of the main city, best of both worlds. There are some areas to avoid.

if you stay in dyce you will be bored stupid in my view (no offence anyone) i spent a week there on a training course, if your taking family then yeah why not, on your own hmmm.

Re: parking, it isn't too bad in the city centre if you have a residents' permit. I believe there is a maximum of 2 allowed per address; this caters for old tennaments which have been divided into umpteen flats too. I'd say if you rented in town, obtaining a permit shouldn't be a huge problem.

When I rented in the Rosemount area earlier this year, a 6 month pass cost me £42 which I thought was pretty good value in terms of cost per day.

Thanks for the advice chaps, it's given me more options than I thought I'd have smile

I think I'm going to get temporary accomodation in or around Dyce at first, maybe for a couple of months as I'll probably be working longer hours than usual anyway until I've settled in and learned the new job etc. Early next year I'll hope to have a better idea of where I'd like to stay, but the city centre flat then train/bus does sound good. Might even get to know some people who already houseshare, travel together etc.

Having looked around the flatshare webistes there's plenty to choose from whatever I decide to do. Bloody expensive up there though!!! You could have a mansion down here for the price of a kennel in Aberdeen! :P
