For what it's worth, I would suggest that you have a good look at the interior of the wee beastie, as it's quite easy to see where the £20K price premium over a Freelander has gone.
It really is quite a tour de force in interior styling and comfort, and surprisingly roomy, especially in the back.
There are some oddities though. They are offering a coal black interior, with the usual footballers wives/ drug dealer privacy glass, and without a glass roof it's like sitting inside a closed coal scuttle.
On the other hand, the lighter coloured interiors are much better.
I sat in one or two at my local dealer, more out of curiosity than anything, and I came away pleasantly surprised. Give it a six cylinder engine, say the 2.7 TDV6, and it would be a class leader.
I was told that the dealer allocation is 5 units per month, country wide, and that as ov late October the waiting list was already up to the end of June.
Also, the demographics of sales is quite interesting, with the majority of 3 doors going to female customers, and the majority of 5 doors going to male customers. So, not the school run mum vehicle of choice then.
While I agree that it's too expensive as a tarted up freelander, it's definitely a premium product, and I don't see that Land Rover are having too much trouble parting people from their money. While I still think that calling it a Range Rover is a bit cynical, it's also a touch of marketing genius.
And yes, it does look stunning in the flesh.
