There was a program called Winter Road Rescue on during the week that featured the guys that drive the snowplough on Applecross. Also featured a few other folks inc an RAC driver down south.

Now I am guessing that after the last two winters, someone has thought it a great idea to do a sort of "ice road truckers" series, following them as they go about their duties.

Except there has been a severe lack of snow.

We did see a clip of the Applecross plough stranded and I couldn't help but think it looked made up. OK the snow was bad but when the tractor came up to rescue them you could see the black tarmac of the road! The snow plough looks like it is all wheel drive? Anyone know if thats the case?

And the program ended showing RAC mad dealing with a bog standard breakdown!

Me thinks they will be praying for more snow to continue this series!

I watched that the other night and had a fair giggle at how "some" of our highland drivers required subtitles and some did not. rofl

I watched it as well brave guys. But cant help wonder why there werent using snow chains if they are going up there. Must be horrendous bad enough in the summer some times.

its some road guys, if you see it you will soon have a much greater appreciation for it. I havent been up the bealach na ba (forgive my speeling) for a few years but I remember going up as a kid and some cars had to do parts of it in reverse, its steep. very... add in winter and its going to be a hell of a lot harder.

Two years ago at cairngorm was much better (worse if you work for the press). My brother drives big Cat machines and was asked to clear the road with a bulldozer... Part of Scottish highland life, i love it when its like that personally.
