Hi all, I'm having a night in Edinburgh tomorrow with the GF. We're staying on Grosvenor Street near Haymarket and was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere nice for dinner in the vicinity??

Cheers!

Haymarket is not far from the centre of town either walking or by taxi.

Browns on george street is really nice.

For somewhere amazing wildfire on rose street

For truly gobsmackingly amazing Wedgewood on the royal mile.

Annoyingly I can't remember the name of it. Was a french/scottish resteraunt IIRC. Very ambient lighting, over 3 floors.

Absolutely fantastic food. Just annoying me I can't remember the name of it!

Browns is very very good, even if it is a sort of chain.
Witchery is excellent but expensive.

Stac Polly is just off Castle Terrace next to the Usher Hall, therefore 1/4 mile tops from your hotel. Very very good Scottish food done in French style.

Down in Leith you've got places like The Shore and Fishers which have fantastic menus, predominantly but not exclusively fish orientated and lovely surroundings. It'll be a tenner in a taxi though each way.

All these are great suggestions but I think you need to tell us a bit more.

How much do you want to spend?
How fancy/special do you want it to be?
What kind of food are you looking for?

I could suggest 20 places but all would be different depending on the above.

Granted, I was a bit vague in my original request! Lol.

No budget, traditional come modern cuisine.

It's a Valentine's Day and anniversary rolled in to one, so pretty special would be good.

Brown's looks good but is fully booked for tomorrow, and I'm also struggling to get a table at The Wedgewood.

EDIT - Wedgewood now confirmed as fully booked!!

The grain store on Victoria street is nice. it is slightly hidden in that it is on the first floor above most of the shops(not on the terrace).

I've booked an Italian called Bar Roma. It seems to be quite highly recommended.

Thanks for all the suggestions and I'll let you know how I get on!!

Know it well. Food decent but not special. Service / decor etc ok. It's perfectly ok, just not very special. At least tell your waiter it's a special occasion and get a free limo cello out of it or something!

It's very, very nice and food is lovely. Get a seat in the Secret Garden part of the restaurant though as it's better than the main room in my opinion.

Do the set menu and plus drinks it comes in about £100 per couple assuming you don't have an expensive bottle of something to go with it.
