Puzzling road sign – Lang Stracht, Aberdeen
Discussion
The traffic signals have two stop lines.
The first stop ;ine is for cars.
The second one is for cycles.
Nobody in Aberdeen uses cycles, according to the "spotted" threads, everybody runs about in porsches, aston martins and various other exotica.
Hence special educational signs are required.

Is the correct answer. If you zoom up the road on G Maps you arrive at the lights and can see the two lines. The first stop ;ine is for cars.
The second one is for cycles.

Thanks for that - makes sense.
I do think it's a bit daft though. Road signs have to be concise and unambiguous. When I passed this one the other day, I only managed to absorb about half the information before it was too late.
I guess traffic is often quite slow moving at this point so many drivers wil be able to read and digest the content ... however, given that a few people here weren't clear on the sign's intent indicates that it's arguably pointless.
I won't even start with the potential for distraction ...
Regarding observation of road markings for cycle lanes; I don't need a sign to spell it out to me. I know the score and I do things correctly; however, those who don't are never going to be influenced by a sign.
In summary, what a piece of nonsense.
Cheers,
Eric

Yep - and as a cyclist commuter in Edinburgh, not many drivers know what this sign means and the red painted section in front of the lights means either...The first stop ;ine is for cars.
The second one is for cycles.
