I'm hopefully picking up a 2002 9-5 Aero estate today, and would like someone who knows them well to give it a service/ check over. Any recommendations please?

Schoneville Saab who are near to Western Saab.

They did some work on my old 9-5 Aero and cheaper than Western

Sorry to hear your having problems. Sabco are a Saab specialist in bishopton. Good friend of mine has dealt with them for years.

Schoneville Saab - the owners are into rallying in a big way and are friendly folk.

The engine starts immediately, and idles and revs as it should, but is making a clicking/ ticking noise. It quietens down to a lighter tick at sub 2k revs after it has been running for 30 seconds or so, and no engine or oil warning lights come on. I fear the sludging issue most likely has caused the oil pickup to become partially blocked, and probably needs new big end shells. It's on Gumtree for £800 to see if anyone wants a going concern.

Ive had a few Saab 9-5 Aeros estates and one of them did develop a rattling noise as if the top end was starved of oil. This all came about following a turbo change following a failure of a seal. I did a bit of research on the web and it seemingly was a fault with the older 2.3 turbo engines and at the time Saab had some sort of warranty in place, as long as the car was bought from a main dealer and was dealer serviced.

Fortunately mine was, although the turbo was fitted by an independant and Western did the decent thing and dropped a new engine in the car. This was a 2000 model and was in 2006 when all this was done. I went on to buy a much newer Aero estate which supposedly had the modifications done to it to prevent this and never had a days bother with it. The older one also had 3 coil packs in the 4 years I owned it.

I know it doesnt help but this sort of problem was a common fault on the car. As for the state of Saab and their dealers now, I dont know whether there might be any redress now.

Best of luck with it. They are super cars and excellent performance for the money, but this is a side effect unfortunately.

Well that was the shortest time I've owned a car. Someone came today and paid a deposit for it as a 'going concern' with it's ticking engine and now blue smoke from the exhaust.

On the hunt for something else now as our second car.

Deja vu...

I bought a 2004 facelift Saab 9-5 Aero estate today. Much better than last weeks one! Quick, hoonable, and practical for the family biggrin
