Thinking of getting a motorhome to take my wife and 2 quines on various short breaks accross UK. I have a few queries on this.

1 If I was found sleeping in my car after having a few beers I would most likely get done for drunk in charge. Would I be right in thinking it would be the same in a motorhome?

2 Wife very vocal that she wants one with a seperate shower, imagines the shower / toilet combo arrangent not good.

3 Had a look at a few where you make up a double bed from the seats. Gave it a try and it looked a hassle and very uncomfortable with all the various cushions making up the mattress. Had us convinced we need a fixed bed. 2 quines happy to sleep above the cab, we tried it and it seemes a bit of a hassle getting up and down from there as grown ups.

4 Have a black lab. Take him with us or pawn him off to the neighbours?

Do it! We had one for 3 years with 2 young kids & a spaniel.

Kids slept over the cab, we slept on the double made up from the table, we used to lay a duvet under us to even out the bumps but others use memory foam or similar.

Ours had toilet/shower that you pulled a curtain around when you showered, never a problem to us.

If your kids are older or you plan to keep it for a few years you may want to look at one with bunk beds.

Can't imagine you'd get done for DD if you were on a site, if you rough camped in a layby (why would you?) then you may have an issue but don't they have to prove an intent to drive?

That's pretty much it. You'll be fine on a campsite but if camping rough you should really have someone sober enough to move the vehicle if required. We often camp rough in ours - not in laybys I might add as that's largely rubbish - and don't drink if we're somewhere where we might get approached.

Can't help too much on vans as we went with a small one (VW T5-based without a toilet) but Simon at Jerba Campervans in North Berwich would be a good place to start if you wanted a custom-designed new van. We had a 6-yr old ex-works van converted by them to our exact requirements, but they also do bigger vans.

Bought mine new in 2007. Only done 14k in it.Mainly up the west coast and the outer hebrides. Wee girls are 6 and 3 now and they love it.Wife now refuses to set foot in it,but I will not be "nagged" into selling it.
Great just to jump in and go and explore our beautiful country!

Why not hire one first for a week and see how you like it. We had one for the October week last year,my son and I loved it but wife said she wouldnt fancy it again, bit too much like roughing it.
