HI Guys,

I need recommendations for Wheel Balancers in glasgow - I need someone who knows what they are doing and talking about.

Someone who can spot a buckled alloy, not use opposing weights and has a properly calibrated machine, oh and someone who cares about what they are doing!

need someone who can do large alloys 20" amg

getting really tired of going to idiots in the past who say they have done it - paid for it and then found out its not done properly - im not paying until i have test driven it and know its done perfectly

cheers all

2/10 for rant.

Most established tyre fitters should be able to balance a wheel

Firstly: Wasn't really looking for a grading on my rant
Secondly: your statement "Most established tyre fitters should be able to balance a wheel" is correct - they should be able to yet can't

Thanks for your post.

Is it a particular wheel/tyre? could it be the tyre is damaged/odd shaped?

Go for http://www.prestigetyres.co.uk/

Had my wheel alignment on the Porsche and four new Quatrac 3's on Mrs.s Puma. Top notch IMOH.

Hi Mate,

its 20" amg alloys. I generally always keep alloys on the large side aka the option wheels you can spec on cars. I have noticed most tyre fitters dont car about balancing wheels correctly and its always posed a problem for me as i like it perfect without any shake.

I had a Vectra SRI with full VXR pack that had 19" alloys and it was a nightmare balancing them for some reason - eventually someone realized one wheel was buckled and the rest were fine but found it difficult to balance the tyre (falkens 452's) - i got so sick of it that I got rid of the car

I then got a BMW e90 LCI (BN) - 18" optionals - i was dreading coming up to changing the tyres - had to and had the same problem - need the tyres quick so went to quick fit - crap - went back three time - and the third time basically told me to do a bolt if it wasnt done and i said nope ill be coming back (just said this to tick them off) eventually got sick of it, went to a different place then eventually went to BMW - a guy called paul done their wheel balancing and said two were ok but two back ones were way off - went out for a drive and all was bliss -

Then had an audi a8 - could feel a slight wobble - went round different garage in glasgow and no luck - everyone was rubbish couldn't do it properly - i was going for a trip to london and everyone used to rave on about elite tyres in essex - went to their establishment and they done it properly. amazing

I am generally quite good at being able to tell if the alloys are stuffed or its balancing - got an ml and i can tell wheel balancing needs done - fine before 50- fine after 90 - like a pig at 60-73ish - especially as the car just had a service and had two new tyres put on. Or if it is buckled, would just like someone to be able to tell me.

Vectra had 19's, BMW had 18's, Audi had 19's and this ML has 20's - really don't want to go through the same problem - I actually tried to call bmw to speak to paul and ask himt o do my audi - but he was only there covering 1 month for someone and don't know where he was placed - but dam he was good - spent almost an hour to do it and came out and spoke to me - took his time - really miss him lol

so im on the hunt for a good wheel balancer who knows about out of round, flat spots putting the direction of a tyre on properly if needed to - the places I have been and the things I have seen with people wheel balancing - I don't even know how they can still be in business - I think most people think ah well its a shudder who cares put the radio up - I CARE LOL

PS. All cars bar the vectra (more mid range tyre) had premium tyres - BMW had bridgestones as per manufacturer spec, audi had continentals etc

Oh crap - I forgot I have a range rover with 22" alloys (genuine over finch) before the audi too - I went to a couple place who said yup 100% we can do them - made them worse - went on the war path with one of them who charged me 60 pounds and got it refunded.

Hi - thanks for the recommendation - I have seen these guys on the internet and do seem to have a great website but I thought maybe that's all they had and it was more of a front.

Might give them a call and see what they have to say or can advise - thanks for that smile

Yeah I think most people managed to get away with doing alloys that size - The trouble is larger cars I have been told are very sensetive to even small differents in the balancing so really needs to be perfect.

Performance Tyres in Anniesland balanced out an 18" AMG wheel I had which had quite a buckle in it, I'm told Porsche centre use them for all their tyres so they should be used to dealing with larger rims.

Thanks for the reply yellowbentines -

Funnily enough I came across them this morning however crossed them off the list as they had a few branches and assumed it was just a bog standard franchise outfit - looks like I might have to give them a call and see what they say. Thanks for that smile

Anyone else with experiences ?

I was pretty impressed by them, I didn't realise the wheel was buckled and they picked it up whilst fitting two front tyres. They said it was borderline between being able to balance it out and having to get it repaired, but that they'd balanced it and according to the machine it should be ok, but that if I had any issues to go back. It was a 255 width tyre on an 18" rim on the front of a heavy E-Class estate, so I assume if they hadn't done a decent job of it I'd have noticed - which I didn't!

Well the good news is they sound like they actually care about the work they do - do you remember off the top of your head how much they charged for the wheel balancing?

thanks

Sorry, it was an all-in price including a couple of new tyres so was upwards of £350 - I didn't get a breakdown of cost but it all seemed really reasonable on the whole.
