Hi,

I just purchased my Specialized Secteur 2013 on Monday and had been loving riding it. As I live in Aberdeen city now I had intended on cycling to work and using it for sprint triathlon training. Unfortunately I came downstairs this morning to find this:

So if anyone sees this:

(better pic from web...)

for sale anywhere, please let me know. It was stolen from the stairwell of a secure entry flat. They left another two bikes behind, so they knew this was there and aimed for it. Police have been called but they can't do much until next week, so it'll be long gone by then, I imagine. I'll keep checking the usual sites/second hand shops etc, but if anyone sees one on Gumtree or anywhere else in their local area - even down South/elsewhere- please get in touch. It's a 2013 bike and there aren't many that will be for sale second hand.

Thanks for looking.

I'm off to cry again cry

Wow, that's gutting.

Those flexible wire locks are total rubbish, pretty much thick plastic coating over thin strands of wire and one good 'snip' will get through.

I'll keep and eye out, what size is/was it?

Thanks, there's a slim chance it might creep up on someone's Facebook page, or a FS ad somewhere, so any help keeping an eye out will be gratefully received. Agree on the lock, though it was recommended by the guy in the shop. If you've got bolt cutters, not much is going to stop you tbh, short of a solid anchor point lock.

It's a 54cm frame. It was bog-standard, hadn't even got round to fitting my pedals frown

The feds said lots of Specialized and other decent brands are being stolen, so there must be an outlet for them somewhere.

Sorry to see this. I had two down hill bikes taken that were secured using the same type of lock. It was just severed like yours and the bikes gone. frown

The police reckoned mine would go south very quickly as they were thousands of pounds of quite unique bikes. Keep an eye on Pinkbike and Gumtree though.

I'll keep an eye out too.

Gutted for you. My mate has recently bought a 2012 one and its a great bike.
My bike is secured with a 70 quid abus lock. No point in getting a nice bike and trying to keep it safe with a cheapo lock I'm afraid.

This is why I keep my bike in my flat, even though it is a nuisance.

I really hope you find it. Sucks that there are so many morons out there that insist on ruining other people's days because they are too stupid/lazy to work for something.

Best to keep bikes In your property so these opportunists don't try it on, a lock means nothing to these minks.

I can strip my downhill bike to its component parts in 5 minutes with one pocket sized multi tool, so if they cant get a lock off your frame, they will take the rest.

Hope it turns up, as mentioned above pinkbike.com, also ebay and gumtree are worth watching.

Thanks for the kind words chaps, I am indeed gutted.

I don't want to give away too much about location, but it was around the North end of Holburn St area.

I didn't have space in the flat to keep it... well, without offending my new flatmate! The replacement will be kept in my bedroom and I'll put up with the hassle of moving it to get into cupboards!

In hindsight I was naive to thinbk that the stairwell was safe "because everyone seems friendly enough" rolleyes I'm still suspicious of a guy who has a van and tools, but there's no way of proving it unless I catch him with the bike!

Yup, it was a great bike! It barely flinched at the rutted roads up here, which is exactly why I went for it. Good geo, comfy and picks the pace up well too.

As for the lock, that was a £50 Abus. The only other ones that the shop recommended were huge D-locks or mega-heavy chains. As I thought it was going to be 'safe' inside, I went for what I thought was up to the job. Seems I was wrong!

It saddens me too, to think of you other guys with much more desireable machinery that's been nicked frown You're pain must be like mine, but ten fold.

I'm going to keep looking on all the usual places/sites etc. Thanks for the advice peeps beer

I know of 3 good friends that have had expensive bikes stolen in Aberdeen the past few years. Two of them were in padlocked bike sheds. It seems you can't keep a good bike anywhere but your own house/flat now.

never give up hope fella, back in the early 90's my beloved Dynatech was nicked outside of John Menzies, 6 months later plod turned up to work with it in the back of a mariah. Turned out the scrotes who nicked it had done so to order and the guy running the operation had a garage full of exotica from all over the northwest.

No shops/garages nearby with CCTV, perhaps see which direction they went. Pain in the ass and a long shot at that but maybe worth trying.

Hi,

I saw this on cash converters and ended up here after a quick Google...

http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/4...

Only reason I'm bothering you is because it appears to have the same rear light bracket...

Hi,

Thanks for posting this, I really appreciate you taking the time to do that.

Unfortunately the bike in the ad is a 58cm frame, where mine was a 54cm frown I'll still email and ask for a photo of the serial number, just to be sure in case they've mis-advertised it, but I'm not holding out much hope.... I gave up all hope a while back!

Thanks again anyways smile

bugger!

Feels like an utter invasion as well, bikes are always kept IN car and IN house have been for years now and no problems. Had two go walkies when i stayed in flats, My first one was unique, informed all the local bike shops, one schemy came in and asked errr how much are ***** worth, they tried to stall him but he rumbled and legged it. Full description and everything, never got much from GP on the matter. Are you covered for it on household or other insurance?

cable locks arent that strong, a bigger lock is more of a deterent, but if you can, keep it inside the flat.

Hello there everyone!

Well, as it turns out I was just now randomly googling the 2013 54cm Secteurs (a bike I almost ended up getting, but changed for an Allez race couple days ago)...

Anyway, don't really know why, but almost at the same time as stumbling upon your thread, I came across this Specialized Secteur Triple 2013 Road bike finalized sale on ebay. Seems exactly like your bike (down to the same rear blinkie, saddle, pedals); not sure if you didn't change anything on the stock parts that could help you identify your bike (at least it also has cage pedals, like yours)-

The bike in the ad was listed as a 56 cm.. but we all know the seller could have very well come up with a 'typo' excuse to whoever he sold it.. It was sold in the UK as well, so I thought it might be worth mentioning. As a somewhat recent victim of bike theft myself, I can certainly relate to your loss.
Who knows maybe you could report it to the authorities or something if you think it could be yours?

Well, I just registered into this forum so I could let you know.. maybe it's nothing, but then again, still maybe worth taking a look.

Greetings from Colombia- cheers!
