Hi all, Lookng for some advice. My nissan Almera 2003 1.5 petrol has grinding noise coming from the gearbox. When I press the clutch pedal the noise stops. It had new clutch kit fitted in feb this year.I topped up gear oil today and it took approx 300ml.Car has only done genuine 25k miles with full service history. Can anyone recommend a reasonable gearbox repair guy or place in central scotland to take a look ?

Hi mate is the noise there when the car is stationery.
or is it when the gear is engaged.
if the noise is only there when the car is idling and the clutch is pressed the thrust bearing is poss knackered

Hi, No its only when its running in gear that the grumbling sound starts. It happens straight away and is the same in any gear. Given that it has only done 25k and had new clutch 1k miles ago what is the most likely culprip ? Do you have any idea what would be worst case and best case scenarios ?

Best case possibly the thrust bearing sticking/noisy

Worst primary shaft bearing try find a second hand box as it's more economical than rebuilding the original

Is the noise there when moving or stationary or both

Poss primary shaft bearing mate

But best have someone cast an ear to it as it's to hard to make a definitive diag without experiencing it.

Was it repaired at a garage or a DIY job?

As paul above says, give Roddy a shout, he'll sort you out. Cumbernauld road, at Hogganfeild.

Johnny.

Alan at Alpine Transmissions in Hamilton has done some good and well priced work for me before, would recommend there if you're local.

I'd be taking it for a diagnosis 1st and complaining like mad to Arnold Clark if it's something they've fitted wrong (unless you drive it particularly hard).
