What was the most unreliable car you ever owned?
Discussion
I think we are missing out on car related threads which one may argue is implied on pistonheads!
Though I would therefore start a car themed thread!
Mine was a 1982 VW Golf GTi. It spent about 3 months at the dealership with engine and Fuel Injection problems. Eventually they swapped every single component with another car to get it working!
Lots of other misc problems. Made my '77 AlfaSud 5M seem reliable!
Come on guys, lets name and shame!

I had a Datsun Sunny when I left college. I bought it at an auction in 1985 for £50. It was awful. It steered on it's own course and smelt of rancid curry. I crashed it in snow (possibly on purpose)and it was only when we got it to a garage we realised there was nothing in the boot. I mean, there was carpet, but the entire car had rusted through to the tarmac. Not really unreliable. Un-desirable, Un-roadworthy, Un-remarkable and Under-no-illusion-it-was-crap.
I would have to say my first car which was a red Subaru Justy was a complete pile o crap! Out of all the problems it had, the one i remember the most happened around about the first week or so after I got it, I was leaving college in it and basically the rear suspension fell off! Well I guess that's what you get for buying from an auction for a couple o hundred quid.

I bought a golf gti (mk4) a few months back as a run around. It was a friend of a friend so didn't really look it over which was my first mistake! Proper shed of s
te!
Sold it on a matter of days later after it leaked oil on the drive and failed to start! Not to mention the fact if you went above 50mph it would try and kill you (every bush was fecked!). lost a fair bit of cash on it as I couldn't sell a car in that condition without telling the new owner!

My TVR Cerbera. Drove it 100 miles home from the sellers house and the timing chain snapped as I entered my street. 1 Year and a new engine later I got it back, then the starter motor went, then the alarm system, then the new starter, then suspension, then the new new starter, then the engine went again.
A mix of bad fortune and bad garages didn't help.
Did about 4000 miles in 3 years of ownership.
When it was working well, it was awesome but everytime I stopped for petrol I didn't know whether it would restart

I can't comment on TVR ownership, never having had one. However several years ago I bought a 911 from Brandon, the then TVR dealership in Scotland. When collecting the car I had a good look over their stock and asked about TVR's.
They told me that out of all the cars they sold 50% they only saw for servicing, the other 50% were in and out like yo yo's. I always wanted one though, goes back to the 70's when a friend of mine had the first Taimar in Aberdeen, may well have been the first, or one of the first in Scotland.

Take a guess.... Funnily enough, both the most and least reliable car's have been landrover's.
My most and least economical have also been landrover's.

- disco is now north of 100k, covered 2500 miles so far and has only had one "hicup"
king. B. Taking key out and putting back in.
In 1986 I inherited a B reg Rover 213 saloon as a company car. I don't think it was anything personal though - all the company cars were the same.
That was a hateful, horrid car that made me despise the brand more than I would have thought possible - until I was given a Rover 800 hire car many years later. That was such a piece of s
t that I refused to drive it any further than Edinburgh Airport.
