Just thinking out loud here. There's a few names i see posting in here quite a bit but who i've never met at any of the runs.

If that's you, is there any particular reason you don't come along?

Is it the timing? Don't like driving in groups? Think we're all a bunch of bangers?

Anything you would like to see done differently?

Got my thinking head on about next year's "events" so would appreciate the input.

Cheers,
Olie

As much as I love it, my car is a bit st compared to most of you.

I kind of want to come along but feel a bit out of my depth.

Hi

Glad you thought of doing this Olie. It will be good to get feedback. I was thinking of doing a wee run soon, just need some free weekends!

I can understand people may think you need a fast car to come on the runs, when looking at the pics and videos. It is a wrong view. ANYONE DRIVING anything can come along, as the banter and the drive is what it is all about. On the last run an 18 y/o came along in his Corsa.

However we can't learn to include people if we don't know why you dont come so all posts good or bad must be welcome.

I have an idea for a very large event next year and would hope everyone will come along! Still waiting for some checks and plans to be approved!

Well done Olie

regards

Paul

Don't have a car and sometimes don't notice a run until it's too late, hopefully next year I can get a passenger seat on a run

Guilty as charged...judge

Olie has even kindly offered his skills to help get my MX5 roadworthy and along to a run (I know, I'm on the case of getting the parts ordered wink ), on that basis you sound like a good like-minded bunch.

I could come along in my daily driver at the moment, but a slushbox equipped Merc estate would look a bit silly alongside some of the other cars I've seen photos of on the runs!

Not knowing anyone holds me back a bit too.

Just pitching up with a load of complete randoms is a wee bit intimidating. Especially when (I'm guessing) that most of you know each other already.

I had the same situation with the MX5 owners club. Nice people, but the forum was very cliquey and it put me off a bit.

I'm happy for you to prove me wrong though. If anyone has a ludicrously fast car (like Olie's 928) and offers me a passenger ride in it I'll be right there!

In Fact other way around.

Most People do not know each other! There is a small group who do, but they are in the minority.

a few of us drive ( read mostly push) unusual cars and are recognisable from them! My experience is that everyone just talks to anyone who is there! Even random members of the public who come over and wonder why we are asking so much about their cars! lol. Yes it has happened!

You lot smell & I don't like you.

Alternatively, family commitments tend to prevent me from attending most of the time

Would more static/fun events (read as pub nights/days watching F1 or the likes) entice more people to come on runs if they get to know people easier?

I think even Baz who has sorted the most runs, still meets new faces every time. You normally remember the car before you remember the person and when you stop for lunch half the time you're not with your car.

We should have a thread with a pic of your car and yourself and your real first name, might make things easier.

I have only managed one run last year, My problem is work, as 90% of runs and meets seem to fall when i am working. But Hope to make some next year if it falls in my time off i have a 50/50 chance so hope next year is better.

I think next year we should aim for 1 run a month with other meets OTT of that.

Family / work takes up most weekend time for me. And then I'm trying to rebuild the car on the rest!
I met a run in Selkirk last year, and found it a friendly, unchallenging experience in spite of not knowing anybody.
Fully intend to attend once I have time to attend to it.

my usual problem is that runs tend to be so last minute, which can also be good as they are spontaneous and random, but can make it hard for alot of people to fit them in to their already busy weekends.

the idea of doing nights out without runs is great and one that has been embraced up here in Aberdeen, there is usually a gathering of a sort once a month regardless of weather just for banter.

my only suggestion on top of this would maybe be themed nights i.e.
silly hat night, scalextric night, a run linked with a days karting...

we've done the karting and the silly hat thing here and both were a laugh and a great success. it helps to lighten the mood and makes it easier to spot PHers in a crowded bar.

Lack of spare time here and for the first time in my life I dont have a sporty car!.....hopefully not for long.
I used to attend a lot of Subaru owners runs back in the day, was great fun if a bit dangerous with some of the antics that went on!

Partially due to time and the car never quite being 100% fit. And being a diesel estate.

Other side being I'd rather not get caught up trying to keep pace with people of different skills and quicker cars, I driver better keeping my own pace not somebody else's. Also I figure the chances of getting done by the fuzz by travelling in a group are higher, and the consequences should the worst happen while on an organised run put me off a bit.

Having said that I do fancy turning up one time, as the ethos seems to be quite responsible with the PH group.

When I first joined the forum years ago I was driving a 1.4 Nissan Almera, I didn't stay around long as I found it very cliquey and there were a lot of "in jokes".

I returned now that I own a more PH car, and I've found my original assumptions to be wrong. I went along to 2 runs this year (one was even on my birthday) and have had a great time at both. No matter what car you drive, you'll find someone going at around about the same pace (assuming you're not driving like a tourist over the dukes pass) And there are always folk to chat to at the stops.

I go to the pub meets sometimes as well, but living in Lanark it's a bit of a trek for a couple of hours chatting.

What I'm trying to say is even if you dont have the fastest car in the world, are a bit shy, or just nervous of turning up to a group of random people and chatting away. Don't be. Everyone (for the most part) is nice and friendly and provided you share the common interest with a passion for cars then you'll do fine.
