Has anyone else looked through the proposed plans for redevelopment of George Square?

http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=341...

I think they look terrible, this pic sums them all up:

Far too much grey concrete.

dull dreich and dire!

Surely something like this should include a research group of more than 42 residents participation?

I'm quite surprised that the research report includes:
"the importance of there being grass and general greenery in the Square to provide a contrast to the
surrounding built environment"

yet not one of the plans include grass.

Personally I much prefer a more traditional proposal like this:

I know it is sacrilege but I always think the war memorial in front of the city chambers could be relocated elsewhere on square so that you can see the "Grandness " of the building, The statues in the square are of no interest and some more green would be nice make it a "relaxing" place where folk could rest/snack etc

I looked through them a couple of days ago and preferred this design (#6) out of the six finalists.

Personally, I couldn't care if they move any/all of the monuments to other parts of town as long as there is a cohesive design and also I'd like as few water features as possible; it's fking dull, grey and wet enough in Glasgow without water features!

option #1 looks good for upskirt perving due to the highly reflective surface judging from their submitted drawing.

I'm not really sure why it needs to be developed. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it as it is.

Plus, all of these proposals seem to be removing open public space. Where will the Christmas fair / filming of World War Z / sectarian marches / public demonstrations congregate now?

I think I just answered my own question...

I'd love to see the square having more greenery - trees, grassed areas and benches to sit, however I think it's a given the council are never going to change the square back to that format as it won't allow them to fill it with eyecatching attractions like big wheels, helter skelters, soundstages, trucks, tents, marquees, and all of the other tacky stuff that usually sits in the square taking away from the look of it.

Why not just have it covered in grass and plant some tree's or something on it?. Would rather have a patch of grass than some bizarre modern art design

Ask the people of Glasgow what they would like their money to be spent on and I'm guessing this would be pretty far down the list. Jamie Oliver might be quite happy if they made the area more upmarket...

Fixing the roads would come high up on my list and that of most I'd wager!
