From another forum

I understand that our dear friends in the Constabulary are cashing in - sorry - ensuring "safety" on the hitherto free-flowing Clyde Tunnel traffic.
I don't know how long they will be at it - presumably until the coffers are full, which won't take long.

This message is intended to make us law abiding drivers aware that there may be the occasional "safety" camera carefully positioned where you can't see it until it's too late near the entrance to both sides of the tunnel.

Be careful out there!

That explains the two guys setting up tripods over the gantry the other day!

They aren't there now. Looked strange to me as none of the guys were in any sort of uniform and their car was pretty ordinary looking too.

One of these, perhaps?

See them quite often between Shawhead and Eurocentral, on the disused slip to the tyre place.

These are not speed cameras. They are ANPR to detect no tax or insurance, (allegedly!)

I'll bet the chinese chap with the BMW who lives in my block of flats is terrified of being caught on camera. His tax disc expired in Feb-10 and the car gets used daily. But after a mere 3 years, surely now his goose is cooked... rolleyes

Indeed - my suggestion was that the Clyde Tunnel ones may not have been speed cameras either, as the set up sounds rather odd even for Strathclyde's finest.

Ideal spot for ANPR though, with the volume of traffic going through.

Certainly looks like an ANPR camera in that photo, anyway.

Just as long as they don't start checking acoustic levels, I'm happy. smile

ANPR cameras were placed above the southbound exit and northbound entrance last Friday. Two bike police were then sitting at the southbound exit, one rather bored looking chap in an x5 sitting at the cutoff before the north bound entrance which was causing everyone to drive past at 20mph (traffic queued back to m8 slip) and a 5 series traffic car sitting at the south st exit.

Don't have a problem with them at all, just bl**dy annoying when it causes the flow of traffic to almost grind to a halt.

Cheers,
C

I love it when something awesome sounding goes through the tunnel!

It is always good to get a decent tunnel noise!
