People of Pistonheads,
Am I going mad here? There seems to be lot of stories floating around recently with peoples houses’ getting broken into and cars getting taken, cue people waking up with no car’s in the morning.
Do people not have alarm's in their house / put them on? Forgive me, but I find it madness if not!
You wouldn’t leave your car open with the alarm off, so surely you wouldn’t do the same with your house? Family sleeping up stairs while some bellend is downstairs in your house sniffing about your pants frightens me. Please tell me I am not the only one?

Always amazes me how few folk appear not to have an alarm
The noise of car/house alarms sounding is so little of a novelty these days that they are routinely ignored. I have even been given advice from a police crime prevention officer that they are pretty much not worth the money - with the exception of decent monitored systems, and even then you'll get bugger all response if you have a couple of false alarms.Remember also that it's not uncommon for these scrotes to be captured on domestic CCTV, but they just don't care. They probably have a better understanding of how the thin blue line is stretched to breaking point than most people do.

Cruel I know but I always take view if I have alarm and neighbour does not who will burglar try?
That still rings true though (pardon the pun), anything that makes your place less appealing than your neighbour's is worth a shot.my cousins had alarms, still had their house broken into, only works if your in the house otherwise people will just think it went off by accident and police take ages to show up.
The only reason their car was not nicked was because they had a pug 205 blocking the driveway.
Insurance is cheaper if you say it's park on the street for the reason above, they can't steal the keys if they don't know which house it's going to be in.

Is this true? Never thought about it like that before but sounds like it could be feasible.During a call to an insurance company I was informed that insuring a car kept on the drive was cheaper than if kept in the garage as they had so many claims for scrapes and minor prangs resulting from cars being manoeuvred in and out of them. Weird logic

Keeping a car on public road is cheapest to insure
Followed by driveway
Keep it in the garage and its the most expensive
Weird!

Think insurance companies base on a lot of variables depending on your history and current situation as mine was cheaper in the garage "Roy"
Worth maybe trying your company at renewal time though, who do you insure with?
I'm Admiral multi car.
