A90 Camera Haters

I remember the camera at Stonehaven being burnt out a few months ago. Ive only just noticed the one at portlethen looks not only burnt out but has someone wiped it out?

Bit serious to avoid a fine ha.

I drove past the camera in Portlethen and it was a silver Mitsubishi Shogun that was smashed sideways into the camera. Hope the driver was unhurt but it did make me chuckle when I saw he had wiped out the camera on what is a straight bit of road.

Now that freedom of speech has been banned by the Government, I can't say what I really feel about the loss of another safety camera cash machine.

+1, miles and miles of highway and he/she chose this particular section to leave the road.

he no doubt freaked out when he saw the camera as was going to fast, slammed on brakes and lost it. He took one for the team, we are safe for now.

The portlethen one will no doubt be replaced via his insurance.

See the Stonehaven one is still covered. I take it they are too skint to do anything with it.

Where the Stonehaven one is I have noticed a lot more camera vans and police cars in that layby. Such a good spot to catch people coming from both directions.

There was a mobile van outside Petrofac/Bridgeview on Saturday morning.

I wouldn't mind if it were an accident prone area, but that is just pure revenue making!

They sit there quite regularly - I work just along from there and pass their "spot" every morning and night so I'm always on the lookout and keep to the limits too. That section of road should be a 40 limit, IMHO however.

They also like to sit and take safety photographs at the sea end of the beach boulevarde to capture stills of safety at going-home time quite a lot.

I've said so many times now - if it's dangerous enough to punish, then they should be stopped at the time, not sent a letter demanding money up to 14 days after the "offense". I don't drive like a boy racer and am generally quite law abiding, but in the grand scheme of things camera vans are difficult to justify as a means of enforcement in the interests of safety. In the interests of generating income for not doing anything useful then yes, I can see their point.

My Missus got done doing 36 there last year (she thought it was a 40!), and she works in Bridgeview, so I know they sit there quite a bit.

I think the one at Stonehaven didnt bring in much money and there isn't a real incentive to replace it. The one in the 50mph area at Laurencekirk was burnout and replaced within a week! And I've heard of a lot people flashed there.

What? Can't believe there's anybody daft enough to get caught out there. If people can't do 50 for half a mile or so in a notorious fatal accident zone with flashing speed warnings and everything then they need a bit of extra tuition surely?

Camera in Lonmay, not far out of Crimond was burnt out some time last year. Raised a chuckle fairly straight road so alot of flashed cars there.

Agreed....however there should be a flyover there, but we all know a camera pulls in cash instead of spending cash on a "needless" flyover!!

A flyover would be ideal but they are expensive, I'm sure one would have been built were it not for the credit crunch. At least a camera slows most people down, I can't stand people doing 70 in a 50

simply because it makes it difficult for law abiding people to pull into the outside lane should they need to make room for heavy traffic pulling off of a slip-road or if somebody is going below the speed limit in front of them. There's other reasons as well but these roads are 50 and not 70mph for a reason and people who blatantly ignore that make it more difficult for drivers to 'forward-plan'. It's not a big deal, I just think it's very inconsiderate, especially as most 50 zones are relatively short.
