Road Department numpties
Discussion
Just came through the big roundabout at Robroyston where most of traffic follows logical route of right hand lane from M8 towards Bishopbriggs & Asda/retail park and the odd chancer would take left lane and go right round causing close calls at third exit
Now in their infinite wisdom Roads folk have made right hand lane Asda/retail park only and left hand lane all other routes
Fun and games

Ah, the department of magic roundabouts have opened branches up north then . We've got one in our southern town .On approach to the island, the LH lane is marked lwith an left turn arrow, and outer lane is rightturn/straight on .At island ,road becomes three lanes . HC advice is to stay in LH lane and move to middle lane to go straight. TRY IT HERE ,and it's accident time. Only safe way is to get into outer lane prior to isalnd and then move into midle lane . Nearby ,on a DC, the outer lane is marked straight on with an arrow ,immediately prior to the island . Then once on the island ,the markings in that lane indicate right turn only . I'd suggest that the dept of magic islands have embarked on a course of magic mushrooms .
I got so fed up with the idiots that were incapable of using the roundabout correctly that I started avoiding it and cutting through the Glendale estate so as to avoid any confrontation. I had someone gesticulating and flashing their lights at me previously and when I enquired as to their problem they accused me of cutting them up and using the roundabout incorrectly (ironically they were following the path that the council numpties have now marked up - I despair!)

I saw the council numpties marking the road up last week, I couldn't believe it when my wife told me how they had marked it.
I despair!

So what's the correct answer then here? I used to stay in the right hand lane to turn off at the third exit, but now have to take the seemingly unnatural left hand lane to be turning right...? I notice some folks are ignoring the Retail Park Only markings.
I did wonder how long it would take for these new markings to appear on here!

I travel that roundabout everyday to get to my office and up until Thursday last week, I always was in the right hand lane and cut across to take the 3rd exit, sometimes over the path of cars incorrectly positioned on the roundabout, but now the council numpties have decided that what I was told when learning to drive, is in fact incorrect.
I have now witnessed near misses everyday since the resigning. I would use the Glendale route, but getting out at the roundabout at the top of the hill may be more problematic as I will need to wait for a break in the traffic coming up the hill.
I dont think it will be long before there is a bump there. Just hope I'm not involved.

If there is a bump, how would it be settled?
If the highway code is saying one thing, but the road markings are incorrect and saying something else.
What takes the higher authority?
Highway code gives general rules for lane use, but qualifies that with "unless road markings or signs say otherwise".If the highway code is saying one thing, but the road markings are incorrect and saying something else.

So "road markings" trumps "highway code general advice".
