Wedding Photographer Wanted
Discussion
I am getting married on July 5th in Scottish Borders and am looking for a good reasonably priced wedding photographer. I have looked at a couple of local photographers websites and have been quite dissapointed at some of the quality on offer, you know the type of thing, leaning doorways, arm in the background that looks as if it is on top of the brides head, pram trundling past in the background, people standing yards apart in the group shots. If they cant get the basics right...... So would love to hear from anyone who has some good reccomendations!
Try Paul Clark at chunky productions. Been doing photography for 35 + years.
Did an amazing wedding album at Lake Garda and only used his Leica! Different idea of how to do an album and what people want. Not your conventional photographer nor does standard stuff.
01698 268358 if you want to call him. As a mate, did better pics at my wedding 27 years ago than the 'official' photographer!

Dont bother with an official photographer, they tend to ruin the day and stage too many unnatural shots.
Everyone and their granny will have a camera, ask them all to email or Facebook the photos.
Do folks nowadays still get an actual album made up? We married 22 years ago and its never been out its protective box!

I agree that most people dont look at formal photos. thats why I suggested Paul Clark. He does an informal minimum number of photos, beautifully taken, sharp and produced in a small book which is like a your own hard back celebrity wedding album. Everyone and their granny will have a camera, ask them all to email or Facebook the photos.

I would not rely on a gran with a cam as most photos are badly composed, lit etc and unless lucky are usually terrible.
they do have to be a bit bossy as you apy them for results in a fast moving day with hopefully no chance for a repeat!
This is my recommendation.

Stuart did our wedding in 2011 and I was very impressed with the results.
He's doing our friends wedding this weekend after she saw our pics.
Stuart is copyright free, so you get a disc with all the pictures on it and you are free to print what you like.

The reality is though if there is no official photographer then you will not get any posed photo's you'll get family snaps but really that's it. I was in the wedding game for 6 years and regardless of what people think before the wedding it's only after it that decisions like no photographer, informal shots only or more importantly in my mind no video that people regret these decisions.Everyone and their granny will have a camera, ask them all to email or Facebook the photos.

The OP didn't mention video, again in my 6 years the number of times i heard people regretting not getting one done, the day goes by in a blur, you don't get to see half of what goes on through the day and there are some great videographers around these days. My personal recommendation would be www.bodaproductions.com i assisted Simon to get started in his business and he's absolutely brilliant. Spend decent money on video and photo's, don't get sucked into paying big money for things like cakes etc it's highly likely you won't even have a bit.
John.
One thing I will say being a wedding photographer myself is make a list of the photos you want and give it to the photographer, start with the biggest groups and work your way down to the smallest.
Pretty much as soon as the ceremony is over everyone flogs to the bar and disappears! Make sure you have a allocated 'runner' that knows everyone in the family to track them down!
Don't worry too much about getting extended family and friends photographed unless you really want to, it's your day, choose what pictures you want taken

We used www.spdfoto.co.uk for ours. I knew Steven already as he does some work for my employers on a regular basis. Was surprised to find he wasn't too expensive at all.
As for the video, I have to confess I've watched the video my friend took on our camcorder more than I've looked through the album!
