Car rig photography
Discussion
I've always loved the look achieved when using photography rigs, so I decided to splash out on one to add a new element to my photography.
The rig arrived yesterday and I went out with my mate and had a little practise with his Saab.
Here is the result...

I was using my new lens and unfortunately I don't have any filters for it yet so the pics weren't as good as they could be. However I decided to get up at the crack of dawn this morning and try and get some sunrise shots. Here are a couple of results i'm quite happy with

Murray,
Very impresive.
Do you have a pic showing the whole rig and how it's attached?
I was also wondering how you take the shots remotely (apologies if that's really silly).
It would also be interesting to see one of the shots shown above without the poles and stuff PhotoShop'd out if that's possible and you don't mind.
Cheers,
Eric

Sure. Here's a shot taken from my phone with the rig and camera attached to the car.Very impresive.

And here are the originals with no processing applied.

The boom is 6m of carbon fibre so it's very light and very strong. The main advantage of this is the lack of pressure being applied to the glass or bodywork. So very little chance of deforming panels. Unlike the cheaper metal rigs.
It's secured to the car using 6" suction cups.

I've got a radio receiver plugged into my camera and then a transmitter I use to fire the camera. Not a silly question at all. A lot of people seem to use different methods. Some put it on a timer and run to the car, but I preferred the more relaxed and far less time consuming method haha.

Need to make sure there are no low bushes to take the rig out!!! That could prove expensive!!
Yeah. I've always got my eye on the camera.I'm trying to work up the courage to use it over a ford crossing like this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V2UjOkpwnlE/T9gNzzeQYTI/...
I think a motion picture with a water splash would look brilliant.
I was getting bored of rigs a few months ago, but I have started to love them a lot more recently, if the funds allowed, I would love to get one myself, especially for the F-Type shoot next month!
I agree about the ford though, that would look superb, especially with a Defender or some sort.

Murray,
That's some piece of kit!
I would be happy helping fund it by doing some shots of our family cars. My father looks likely to be adding a modern Aston to his collection so with 3 Astons of varying ages I think it would be rude not to! I still get people asking about the image you took and put onto canvas. Great shot.

My photography has improved quite a lot since that shoot so I'm sure you'll be even happier next time
