Anyone on here previously owner or currently own an RX8?

I haven't owned one but have driven one. Wasn't particularly impressed but was mainly driving in town. I'm sure it's good if you rag it.
Seems to be a consensus that the engines only have a certain amount of miles in them before they need major work so you'll probably benefit from doing a bit of in-depth research to avoid big bills or to be prepared for them. Not saying that they all break, just that it's a big possibility after a certain number of miles that they'll need a rebuild.

I'll be honest, I really like them. Great handling, sporty looks, decent build quality and they sound lovely (if a bit quiet). Also very quick point to point. If you get a good one with low miles and look after it like it tells you in the handbook (no ones does that's why they all fail) they will easily do 90K plus without a rebuild.
It is a hoot to drive and I still take it out for a spin when I'm home. It was the gf's but I kept it when I got her a TT. It's hardly being used now and I plan is to sell it as the M3 and F430 need the garage space, 6k ono and its yours.

Unfortunately it's one of these cars that alot of people love to hate, people who have never driven one, let alone owned one seem to be experts on the rotary engine and it's fragility, fuel consumption, oil consumption and lack of torque. None of which are particularly an issue.
Although slightly different, I had a 509bhp RX7 that I quite honestly abused and it never let me down. I can testify to how strong these engines are if you look after them properly.
For the money, I don't think you can buy better. Maybe a leggy E46 BMW but they are not as much fun.

Excellent handling. Very ergonomic interior. Great gear change. It is a bit gutless at low RPM but the useable RPM range makes up for this. Fuel consumption is more akin to a car that does 0 to 60 in 5 secs rathrr than 6, but overall it's like a 4 seat MX5 to drive. I liked it, but it lost out to things I liked more. If you like it and are prepared for the maintenance as owners of all cars should be, then go for it.

To be honest any and all questions you have are all ready answered in the Jap Chat section. There have been loads if threads in the past couple of months on them.
Have a read of the rx8ownersclub.co.uk. There is alot of info on that.
Beware that the best mpg you will get is 24 and it can drop into single figures when you are having fun. The oil is a bit of a myth. I have used 20 litres in 30 000 miles.

the rx8 does appear to have it's fair share of problems, not only is the engine tempermental but rust is becoming a fairly known issue on the older ones. Cat's go on them a fair bit, depending on engine it can drink a little or a lot of oil. also has high mpg, high tax and not that quick in a straight line for what the running costs are.
If you want a good one you're going to have to shop around for a while, don't buy the first one you see, only get one that has had a recent compression check. Had a friend buy one less than 2 months ago and is already selling it at a huge loss because literally everything has gone wrong with it.
