Are they legal or not right now? I have the opportunity to buy a couple for "Tin can alley" stuff in the garden.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, they are legal but the gov are looking at introducing licences in future. It all depends how you use them as far as legality goes of course.

Yes they are legal. Wee Eck wants to introduce licencing for them but there is strong opposition to this from responsible existing owners and there is a petition against this if you want to add your weight.
Buy them but use them responsibly and make sure there is a safe and solid back drop to your target.

There is strong opposition from owners but given some of the idiots who are able to get their hands on them, there is also a strong argument towards a licensing system. I think there was a period where if Scotland had any power over the issue, they would be banned for a lot of people. It was the time where somebody had killed a child with an air rifle shot out of a window
