I have a new friend for the Ditch Tractor..
The Ditch Disco...
Driving home, narrow back road, pull in to let 2 car's past so stick 2 wheels on the grass verge. So far so simple.
Go to drive out onto the road and the car starts to slide to the left, into a rather deep muddy ditch, which is covered in grass.
Think, hmm. Into neutral, low range is selected, suspension goes into off road height and mud and ruts is selected in the Terrain Response. That should see me out and on my way to food and tv..
Nope, the more i go forward, the more i slide to the left. Baws. Try one last attempt to break free, slide properly into the ditch, car realises it's bottomed out on the chassis and goes into extended mode. Still bottomed out on ditch side wall and going no where.
So, flag down next car and get a lift to a friends farm which is rather helpfully, only 1/2 mile away on the same road. Get there, get a manitau and come back to tow it out.
Unlike the Ditch Tractor, there is no real damage, the cross member below the gearbox is dented and scraped to hell and so is other parts of the chassis but it seems fine. Will get it properly looked over tomorrow and see if anything bad has happened.
Pics as we all like to point and laugh, myself included and a few of you pricks have already laughed at me on fb so the rest may as well join in..
Looks harmless doesn't it?
Was anything but, rendered one of the best 4x4s with possibly THE best off road tyre in it's size immobile.
Also put a mud line a 3rd of the way up the doors.

Well it happens to the best of us. Shame it wasnt a Lamborghini Tractor that pulled you out! That would have been ironic!
All cars no matter what can go beyond their capability. A non harmful reminder of that from time to time does us all some good!
Just glad Alfie wasnt there to get upset!

Car seems fine, took for a drive and no warning lights or noises or pulling to a side so it seems fine.
Puppy not so fine.
He rolled in fox poo this afternoon and has had 2 showers to try and freshen himself up.
He's now in the huff at being washed so much...

You must have just missed me as i flagged down a white Mondeo to get a lift to the Millers farm, i was in the farm for 5 minutes max while he got the keys and we drove back.Glad your out and everything ok
Did you pass the Manitau?
Went back today and had a look at the mess i made. Deep ruts with water and thick mud, poor Disco had no chance of getting out. Everything i had tried to get it free had made it worse and sunk deeper.
Even with the off road biased tyres.
On the Disco3 forum, i'm not the first to have fallen foul of it, and won't be the last.
A lesson learned. Plus i now have an excuse to save up for a winch...

MMMMMMMMMM. Ok so you have the family type dog; the family 7 seater go anywhere (but ditches) car; and as a consequence of both (mainly the dog), the new G/F; Why do you need a winch? To improve your 'puling' power? Steady on!

Had that, twice.All the tips and hints from that were tried and didn't work.
The best thing is not to get in that mess in the first place....
Lesson learned, tbh if it's leaning over far enough for the chassis cross members to be touching the ground. It's stuck, and will need recovery to avoid damaging itself or further damaging the ground with attempts.
That was the mess I has made...
