Beggars/homeless
Discussion
Well did my usual swim on Sunday evening at a gym in the city centre of Aberdeen. While I approached the gate to enter the code two beggars of some East Europe nationality started shouting while swigging alcohol. Tried not to make eye contact and left pretty sharpish. First time it's ever happened. Anyone else noticed an increase in beggars recently. Certainly made me feel uncomfortable. I thinks it's worse when you can't understand a thing they are saying..lol

Try Edinburgh for an abundance of beggars. There is one on most corners or abandoned doorways. The beggars are the nice ones though its the big issue sellers that shout random words at you to make you try to buy a magazine or the shelter or greenpeace people who bounce down the street to try to get your bank details of you that are the most annoying.

I remember 2 of my mates walikg along Princess Street in Edinburgh on a Saturday night and was walking past a begger. One of them threw a couple of pound coins into his tin and contiued walking.
A few yards along the road he turned to speak to my other mate and he had diappeared. He came running back and handed him his 2 pounds back. First mate was shocked at this and told mate no'2, not to be such a t*t.
No'2 then told him that the begger sat along from him at the football and had a season ticket for Tynecastle!!!!
Looks like a good number to have an a Saturday night when X-factor is on.

I think it's tragic that anyone should be begging at all.
Very, very few have to beg, most choose to.I was dealt a good set of cards.
Not only was I born into a reasonably affluent environment but, more importantly, I appear to have been given or acquired sufficient nouse to understand the lifestyle I want while I'm on this planet and what I have to do to achieve it.
If it were possible for me to afford my cars, house and stuff by begging; do you think I'd take that option?
No, I'll go into the office every day thanks very much.
Whether they need to or not, the fact that people apparently still think that begging is an acceptable way of life is, to me, tragic.
Whether they need to or not, their time on this planet isn't as pleasant and fulfilling as it might be and, to me, that's tragic.
Whether they need to or not, society has failed them by not showing them there's a better way and, to me, that's tragic.
So, I still think that it's tragic that anyone should be begging at all.
I don't doubt you heard it and I don't doubt it made an impression.
I wonder how you pictured the chap's flat in your mind though.
A two bedroom penthouse in Kepplestone with its own secure parking?
Maybe he lived in an absolute tip in Fraser Place. Maybe he'd ended up in dire circumstances due to something completely outwith his control. Maybe his benefits simply wouldn't stretch to making the flat reasonable. Maybe he could be due some respect for trying to improve things.
I don't know any of this but I'm not going to judge every person sitting on a street corner based on a snippet of conversation overheard in Belmont Street.

When I lived in Aberdeen I was walking along Belmont St one day. I heard one beggar ask another how it was going, only to hear the reply that the 2nd beggar was 'redecorating his flat'.
Last time I ever gave those feckers cash.
Heard recently: Last time I ever gave those feckers cash.
Beggar/homeless person to person helping on charity soup/tea/coffee van for homeless people,
"can you hurry up with my tea, my mums waiting in the car for me".
