Wheel balancing - Above 70mph

Hi, need some wheel balancing done but issue is there's no vibration until I hit bang on 80mph-allegedly, I don't though think all tyre balancing machines balance that quick.

Does anyone know of one in glasgow that does higher speed balancing?

It shouldn't matter what speed you do, if they are balanced then there should be no vibration at all. It sounds like another problem. It could be a tyre or suspension.

Tyre imbalance comes in cycles and should be there for about 10-15mph coming in and going out. and then should reappear about 30mph later or so. A suspension or tyre issue could be quite different and may not disappear the faster you go.

Try driving through it and if doesn't disappear then it isn't balance

Paul, thanks, I didn't have it with the summer wheels on, I've put on the winters and it's there, I know the rears weren't balanced and it's definetly coming from the rear but as I said its like a switch at 80mph and shaking quite badly especially if I take my foot off the gas, will try and drive through it and see what happens.

How's you anyways, all good? What's happening with the Italian day next year, any news?.

Is the rim straight? I mean, round?

Hope so, I didn't have an issue with them when I took them off last spring, I did bin the tyres and just got new ones at the weekend.

Slight flat spot on one?

I had a rear balance problem on one of my cars and caused a similar problem. Eliminate the possibilities and always left with the answer!

Over complex geek version:

The vibration will still be there at lower speeds but is small; therefore you don't notice it, you're just experiencing something called resonance. If you went well over 80 mph, the vibration would go away again, just like this graph.





So once you get to a certain speed, the force of vibration will become extremely large very quickly.




Simple version:


Just take it to someone that can balance all 4 wheels, the machine will be able to fix any inbalance if there is any
