Family weekend in Glasgow

Surveyor and other half, plus 8 year old daughter will be in Glasgow City Centre for next weekend, arriving 9pm ish on Friday, so no time to do much.

This was brought up as I had a work stay last year and thought it was rather Christmasy, plus EastCoast were happy to let me have a couple of free first class return tickets.

Any advice on what to do Saturday / Saturday evening gratefully received, particularly if it does not involve shops!

Also advice where to eat Saturday night. Had planned a curry, but 8 year will not be up for this. She likes her food plain.

A few miles south west of the city is xscape, has a great indoor ski slope, cinema and a load of places to eat:

Couple of favourites of mine are Stravaigin and The Bothy.

Not got family but some ideas; what about get on the Subway can then get to the less central attractions or go to George Square and can pickup a tourist bus(but not sure right weather for that ) which allows you to hop on hop off the bus.

Also at George's Sq is the Christmas lights and ice skating.

I know it's a shop, but perhaps take little one to Hamleys always seems fun when you walk through and can also meet Santa. Also outside is the Xmas markets; mainly selling food. And then can walk up the main shopping street Buchanan St

Or go to one of the Museums; Transport (also Tall Ship) and Kelvingrove are recommended and are close to each other to the west of the city. Bit of a long walk , so either subway/bus/taxi to get to them.

Glasgow Green Park is a large central park with swings and also the Peoples Palace (another museum) and winter gardens.

Lots of places to eat, if your fairly central head over to Merchant City; plenty of choice of restaurants and usually has a gift market on during the day.

Cant disagree with science museum, Transport museum or George Sq attractions or weather permitting bus tour though 8 year old may disagee with that idea

I hear the Christmas market is good, which I think is down at St Enochs Centre but not been this year yet.

You could see Gravity in 3D at the IMAX (part of the Science Centre) or it's Panto Season at the Kings Theatre if that's more her thing. Kelvingrove Art Gallery is actually quite good for kids and great for adults and The Riverside Transport Museum is worth a wander around. This time of year in Glasgow is mostly about shopping I'm afraid but you can pick up a few single malts and make it worthwhile. There are lots of really good restaurants in Glasgow perhaps the little one would prefer a burger in which case Burger Meats Bun is recommended

Thanks for the replies. The weather has rather done us in today, and we've pretty much dodged shop to shop. Dinner was pizza express, which is something of a shame, but we really were ready for a dry break then.

Biggest disappointment was George square being closed due to winds. Mind you I can understand it having had my umberalla destroy itself, and also chased my daughters down the street. Nearly a Mary Poppins moment!
