Mobile Mechanic - Glasgow Southside (TVR - V8)

I am looking for a mobile mechanic that can resolve an (lack of) oil pressure issue on my TVR Chimaera with a Rover V8. Either that or a garage that is local and could uplift from Clarkston.

Any recommendations?

Is the oil light on or just the gauge reads zero?

Thanks for Mike's contact details. I gave him a call but he wasn't very keen or local.

@Scotty - Gauge is zero but no oil light. I replaced the sensor, hoping that it was the issue however it hasn't made any difference.

What does the engine temp show?

I haven't left it running....It is likely to damage the engine if there isn't enough oil pressure??

it would overheat before damage starts to get done. If there is no oil leak being spotted around the engine bay or the ground my guess would be faulty sensor/switches for it. What work has been done on it before you noticed the problem?

The car has been laid up with electrical issues since it returned from a garage last year. I had put it to a specialist to prepare it to be sold. This included a service and fixing some other bits and bobs.

I realised that it wasn't selling and asked to get it back. When I got it back, it was blowing fuses. I struggled for a while to work out what was causing it - the garage had broken a connector inside the headlamp. They had tried to investigate this issue before returning to me but had run a load of other wiring which confused the matter!

I thought I had the electrical bits fixed last week and went to take it for a run, only to discover the gauge at Zero...Presuming it was the sensor, I replaced it...but no change.

The car has done only about 10 miles since being serviced 6 months ago...I am now unsure of whether there is anything mechanical up having spent a small fortune 'preparing to sell'.

My frustration is that until I sent the car to be prepared, it was running great and only had an issue with the horn!

I really need someone to take a look over it!

I see your chim is a early one so it will have a pre serp engine, who did the service? Was it a Tvr Indy? The pre serp engines can be a bit of a pain to build oil pressure up if the filter is not changed quickly or if being left for long periods could also cause this.

Vaseline is used to prime the oil pump in some cases with these engines.

Not sure of many guys local but I can recommend Barry at Tvr ecosse who does have a trailer service

Your lack of oil pressure is almost certainly due to the car being laid up. The Rover V8 can have a problem with this as there is an issue with oil draining back into the sump and the system losing its priming; this is particularly true if the oil filter or any part of the system has been removed or disturbed; even the pressure switch. If this is the case you have to remove the oil pump cover and prime the gears with vaseline, prime the oil filter to the brim with fresh oil, and then refit it. You should get pressure instantly when you fire it up after that.
