CX7 Transfer Box repair

Anyone know if there is a anyone capable of repairing this in Aberdeenshire area?

What's wrong with it?

Well its a high pitched whine/vibration/rumble from beneath car from about 40mph upwards. Main Dealer Garage thinks it may be Transfer Box but wants best part of £700 to investigate (remove, have a look inside and re-fit) and another £4,800 if its a new transfer box which is required.

Car is not worth that so looking to see if there are any real Mechanics left alive in this world and not just the Technician types who only seem capable of changing entire modules.
