Dog friendly boozers - Aberdeen City

Any recommendations / ideas for pubs in Aberdeen which allow dogs?

I do like to go for a quiet pint once or twice a week with my hound.

Since moving in to the town though, it doesn't appear to be so easy.

Haven't tried it with mine but my only suggestions would be to try places like The Globe, Ma Cameron's and Prince of Wales earlyish evening and before the weekend starts.

I think the problem these days is the food being served.

I think the PoW isn't such a good idea as there isn't much space (she likes to stretch out).

Ma’s is, from recollection, a bit busy at all times of the day.

The Globe is a good shout though – I’ll give them a call and see what they say.

My closest boozer is the St Machar Bar but they've a sign on the door saying no dogs.

Not sure about the Bobbin but it's usually a bit too busy (unless we can get one of those tables with the comfy sofas on that raised area by the door.

Come to think of it, my closest boozer is actually the Rowan Tree Bar but I'm scared to go in there - with or without dog!

Scene - Eric walks in to a pub with his greyhound. He's wearing dark glasses and carrying a white stick.

Barman : "Excuse me sir, we only allow guide dogs.

Eric : "This is a guide dog!"

Barman : "... but guide dogs are always Labradors or German Shepherds!"

Eric : "What have they given me like?"

The Palm Court doesn't mind (or didn't used to) but may be a bit of a trek if your closest bar is the St. Machar.

Alternatively, do what my mum used to - she registered her dog as a Therapet. The yellow reflective bit they gave her for the dog lead looks quite 'official'. Once she realised people were too scared of offending her, she took the dog in everywhere regardless. Not once did she get challenged...

ETA - just read that back and it sounds terrible. She actually did take him Therapetting twice a week for years - it wasn't just a ploy. And she wasn't in the pub everyday, only very occasionally... And he didn't get in the way in pubs or cafes, just slept quietly under the table. Phew. Cleared that up. Sorry mum

Aye Matt, I think I know your mum from the Pittodrie Bar in 1985 (most weekday afternoons).

Seriously though I have looked into the Therapet thing and given it some serious consideration. It's just too much time / commitment at the moment. Hopefully, things will free up a bit in the next couple of years though as it's most definately something I'd like to give my best shot (hopefully with Meg).

I do like the Greyhound hoodie.

Quite apt since the dog is nothing other than an out-and-out thief.

Oh, and BTW, my dog is a lady dog.

Ah, you're King Street-ish. Wouldn't choose to go in any of 'em except the Pittodrie Bar, which might be an option. Obviously avoid it on football days!

Pittodrie Bar is fine in small doses, not the nicest place to sit in of course. I went in there a bit when we stayed opposite in the old RGIT complex.

Great idea to tell the wife you're "taking the dog for a walk" when in fact you get a pint and dog gets a wee walk too!

I was in our only pub in Balmedie a few weeks back and a guy was in with his dog. Ace i thought so i could pull the stunt above!
Guy there with his dog let it up on the seats though which i thought was taking the P!
