Just keep your speed down...

Woke up this morning to a note on the kitchen table from the wife: she got stopped for 59mph in the temporary 40mph limit somewhere around Old Inns. It's on a section of dual-carriaway that's usually (non-roadworks) a national 70mph limit, so watch yourselves folks. Speed trap was set up, 3pts/£60.

She's just bitter she got caught at 12:25am on the way home from a late shift and was the only car in sight on the road!

That fks me off no end.

I don't mind slowing down, and I appreciate that it is for safety of workers, but if there is no about, then what is the problem?

Just met my wife for lunch - she's not a happy bunny - and got the detail. No road workers around at all, 12.25am, and no cars in sight. Perfect conditions. Was on the national speed limit bit after the Moodiesburn lights but before Auchenkilns. There's a layby on a downhill stretch before you enter what was the start of the 50mph bit at Auchenkilns.

I stuck to 40mph on that bit driving back from Glasgow on Sunday afternoon - quite a challenge! (I'm a good boy - I'm doing my IAM). The average speed flow along there seems to be 50-55mph even at that time of day, despite the 40mph limit...

Yep, 12.25am as in 00:35hrs, as in just after midnight - she was on her way home from a 10-hr late shift in A&E frown

And AFAIK the roadworks (and 40mph limit) are in place until early 2011 and the completion of the upgrading of the A80.

Funnily enough, she's taking the backroads from Falkirk to M8 J4, then onto the M73/M74 to get to work today LOL.

Ahh the road from linlithgow to to the M8 J4.cloud9 Brilliant wee road for a run (within the speed limit officer). Just watch the corner at the avon gorge for stupid lorry drivers coming out of that junction.

Ahhh yes, I know the road well myself. Although, if you turn left at the roundabout just before the Avon Gorge (and head via Avonbridge, California, etc) it's a much more interesting way to get to Falkirk biggrin

No idea about laser at night - was a patrol car that chased after her though. 24hrs later and she's still hacked off...

I've passed through this section twice in the past week and it's absolutely pcensoreds-boilingly low. I tried initially to sit at 40, in full "compliance" for most of the restriction, but I kid you not, I did not catch up with a single vehicle, and not a single vehicle that caught up with me hesitated to overtake - except for the HGV that noone would let out, who decided 2ft off my arse was a better place to be. Hoofed it away at that point, and I was still being overtaken...

The best bit? The cones are all stacked up neatly at the side of the road!

What happened to good old common sense?

A good ticking off and a lecture on why the speedlimit is there and sent on your way

Targets to meet no doubt

Mind you bit of me thinks how sad/dedicated (make your own mind up)that they could be bothered at that time of night

How sad that an expensive public resource should be so egregiously misdirected.

Heads should roll!

Came through there last night just before 12 and some poor sod was in the back of a police car. Cones still on the grass verge!

Yeah know all about that turn off as the petrol station just after the avon gorge used to always be 2p cheaper than the petrol station of the same brand in Linlithgow was. Isnt know though its generally the same price since they both had their shops converted to costcutters.mad

Wasn't an actual camera, was a patrol car sitting in a layby. Wife described it as being A80 eastbound, in a layby about 1/2 mile after the M73 joins in. Road takes a mild bend to the left, over a slight crest then downhill again.

I drove through from Falkirk to Glasgow on this route yesterday mid-afternoon. Like bonzoguinness, I initially sat at 40mph but felt dangerous due to the speed differential - everyone was passing me, some I'd say were doing at least 70mph. I upped my speed to 50mph but I was still passed by every single other vehicle on the road. I'd estimate the average person was cruising at 60-70mph along that stretch. No justice whatsoever frown

Its not what you or your missus wants to hear I know but 50% over the national limit during the night even on a deserted motorway and she wouldn't be driving to work at all for a while frown
