Engineering apprenticeships
Discussion
Hi there, im just wondering if anyone know of any engineering apprenticeships, preferably mechanical, in and around Glasgow?
I am currently at college doing an HNC in Mechanical Engineering and is due to finish on June the 20th all the places I have tried are all starting to get back to me saying they aren’t taken on apprentices or the closing date was in March. I didn’t apply then as I intended to go to uni. I am now regretting that as I would guess il be more qualified than some of the candidates that were successful.
Thanks Sean

Iv not sat any test unfortunatly. I didnt know I had to sit any tests im afraid. I dont really believe im in the position to be choosy so would look at anything.
I just sat going through the phone books phoning any engineering company I could, around 40 companies phoned id guess, and was only able to get 2 emails to send my CV to. Alot were saying they dont have enough work for themselfs. One business I phoned said they were in the business of closing down and today maybe there last day. Not looking to healthy.
Il look into the companys mentioned thanks.

Its an industry test kind of like a CITB for engineers. Try Best.com they looked after the mechanical apprentice and found him a job.I just sat going through the phone books phoning any engineering company I could, around 40 companies phoned id guess, and was only able to get 2 emails to send my CV to. Try Wood Group Heavy Industrial Turbines in Cumbernauld. Their info is on www.woodgroup.com . They maintain gas turbines for power generation on shore and also offshore. There is a world wide demand for electricity so no down turn in business! You may need to go through a company called Mettech in either Grangemouth or Falkirk for a year before getting on the job experience, but get their number and ask.

Good advice. Thanks alot for the information guys. Iv followed up every suggestion so far. Got a few adreses to send my CV off to so soon see. I also have an interview tomorrow with Paisley and Johnstone Training Group. Anybody no anything about training groups? All I have been hearing so far is its aimed at people with little or no qualifications/ options which I dont think I fall into that category so hopefully not. But im going to keep open minded and il guess its all just here say.
Rolls Royce at Inchinnan have been taking on apprentices for the last few years, assume they will be again this year. If you already have an HNC I think they will put you on a degreee course at cally.
If you call and speak to Steve Brodie he should be able to give you some help.
