Just wondering if anyone could recommend good self catering accomodation in the west coast/north of Scotland. Been a while since i've spent two weeks holidaying in Scotland, but recently got a Pointer from the local Cat and Dog home and dont want to leave her this year (does this animal know how lucky she is! )smile

Reason I asked about scamera activity on another post is that I'm going up to Fort William in a week or two , renting a Hoseasons caravan ,which seem to be pet friendly . If you can wait till about the 6th June , I'll let you know what these are like .But nigelonich has contacts in Onich - not far from there - in fact Onich is a lovely place ( got to say that - got many friends ,and a few relatives there , and it's where I met Mrs WM.)-holds a lot more happy memories for me than Fort William .If you can't wait -and nige can't oblige - try the hoseasons.co.uk site -but don't forget that a dog loose in that part of the country makes the farmers more worried than a bucket of mint sauce to sheep. And in some parts the rams have been known to attack dogs (and even highly polished cars cry).Would suggest that in that neck of the woods you get to know what ticks look like ,and how to get them off -because as sure as eggs is eggs - she'll get at least one -

If you have the dosh, this is perfect

www.torridon.com (Just won best hotel in Scotland)

They have a cottage next to the hotel, pet friendly. No kitchen in the cottage, so you have to eat in the pub or hotel (perfect!)

Try the tourist information website, they do a great little brochure with ratings, comments etc by area that will probably help you and im sure they will send one to you.

Remember these three pieces of advice if your coming up here during the summer - midge repelant, midge repelant, midge repelant!!! they are nasty little buggers and the further North you go the bigger they get until they are flying pirana (aparantly avons own brand moisturiser is a great repelant)

On the plus side, the west coast has genuinely some of the best scenery and roads anywhere, make sure you either take the road from Loch Lomond up past Oban to Fort William or Stirling (through Crianlarach and Glencoe) to Fort William on one leg of your journey, you wont be disapointed.

Enjoy (and remember your midge repelant)

Another trip you might like is to cross Corran ferry ,turn left on the Ardgour side and head for Strontium ,then Salen to Acharacle ,turn left heading for Ardtoe and take the side road to Castle Tiorum ,where there's a semi decent beach .After that follow the road to Glenfinnan and left to Mallaig ,or right to Fort william . Ardgour -Strontium is SC,last time I was there Strontium -past Arachacle was single track, and the rest to Glenfinnan was SC .The bit to Castle Tioram was narrow single track .

This is on my list of places to stay, stayed at Kilcamb lodge last month which was lovely.

Might give them a bell about the boat house, although £1250/week is a little bit more than I was looking to spend especially now that we're going for two weeks. I love the area though, used to go fishing in Loch Maree and then further up towards Ullapool and the Assynt area.

The boat house is in a STUNNING location.... it's completely secluded, right on the shore (obviously!).

This was taken about 100 yards away

A bit cheaper (and not in such a good position) but beautiful inside is http://www.scotland.org.uk/cottages/op-propdetail-...

We past this place on Sunday on our way to Applecross as part of the HH09. There were about 8 cars in the group and we went up over the pass in the fog and after lunch back round the low level route.

P.s the hotel looked amazing.

If any of had had your phone number or knew where you lived we would of invited you to join us for lunch burger. The inn was heaving with bikers so we had to have lunch at the campsite cafe (very nice). We knew you lived nearby maybe next year?

We have stayed at a place in Glen Roy, just outside Fort William on the Inverness Road. Called Tulloch Farm
http://www.tullochfarm.co.uk/

It's child and pet friendly and we used it as a base for travelling to Skye / Inverness / Fort William etc etc. And the cottage themselves have Sky TV, log burning fires and the owners are exceptionally friendly and prices are decent.

Couldn't recommend it high enough. Sometimes when they have unbooked weeks they will sometimes list on ebay so you can sometimes get cheaper than advertised price if a late booking.

Arnamurchan Estates have plenty of great holiday cottages/ houses on the peninsula - if you need a contact, PM me. I'm a big fan of Ardnamurchan.

I have a second home in Onich near the Corran Ferry just before the current roadworks that everyone is getting stuck in at the moment. If your passing through Onich look for the standing stone just after the Onich Hotel going North on the left. The CS is near it.

Ive been out in the Stradale round the Kinlochleven road this evening as I left it over here for a while (normally lives in ABZ). Ill head to Mallaig tomorrow sometime if ive got time. Oban on Sunday perhaps.

You guys out this weekend?

Reckon the roads will be dead during britains got talent.
