Looking for work in Edinburgh
Discussion
Hi All,
I am in the process of relocating from way down south up to Edinburgh and could do with a little bit of assistance, I need a job! I have found a few websites with jobs, some UK wide, others Scotland wide and so was wondering which ones regulars to the area would recomend. Also, which are the good papers with job vacancies in them and is there a weekly job sepcific paper?
Agencies, I am yet to do a search for agencies, but does anyone know of any that I could approach to assist me? I am currently an aircraft engineer and am finding that there is not a great need for this in Scotland, less so in Edinburgh, so I am being realistic and not limiting myself, basically I am looking at a multitude of areas.
Thanks for looking and any help someone may be able to give.
Ian

And there was me thinking Gumtree was just for escorts offering cheap quickies (or is there something you aint saying Graham?).
Need to start getting papers and looking through on a more regular basis and I might have to pop up and spend a day visiting some of the recruitmant agencies.
Hows you doing then anyway Graham, you up for a pint or 5 in the Black Bull anytime soon, or you can introduce me to your other haunts. We now have a new house just off Leith Walk, might be closer to you now.

No idea what those pubs down at the Pilrig/Bonnington/Newhaven crossroads are like.
Trust me, your missing very little.- What's now the Guilty Lilly is "OK" but pretty soul-less. There's the same cliquey gang at the bar from when it was Baccus. It might improve as it gets a bit better known.
- The Bonnington Bridge Bar is currently closed, because they found £50k's worth of weed growing in the cellar. I suspect it'll be quite a while before they open up again. No great loss, as it was a serious dive anyway, and I might sleep a bit better now they've packed in their god-awful kareoke.
- Oceanic on Ferry Road. Where the winos go when it's too cold to drink Brasso on the WoL walkway.
The only one down this end of Newhaven road worth looking at is the Village on South Fort Street. Nice bunch of folks in there, but they do have live scottish folk music from time to time, so be warned!

Megy - aircraft engineer - can you be a little more specific? I'm working with some organisations that are selling into the airline industry so may be able to connect you.
Morning, I have done a multitude of things in aviation now, I have worked hands on as a mechanic (spanner monkey), worked in the heavy maintenance of an airline and now working as an office based engineer in the technical services dept. Any help you (or anyone) can offer will be greatly appreciated as jobs seem very slim on the ground.megy said:

I'll check with my contacts and let you know if they can connect you.
That would be great, much appreciated
Can't help on the job front, but now you're in town there are some networking (

Can't help on the job front, but now you're in town there are some networking (
) opportunities(
)...I am still doing the commuting thing, coming up at weekends on a friday evening, so the networking of the liquid variety will have to wait a while, unless someone suggests a friday/saturday. I may very well come along to the networking of the driving variety again, the roads last time were pretty cool, the company even better.
Mostly I come up on alternate weekends due to the expense of travel, so looking for work as soon as i can, its no good having a fiance that i dont see too much, when i am married i will probably be looking for work down south again

We might be going for a Sunday Lunch - keep your eyes peeled - and many of us just might be prone to being dragged out for a pint on other occasions...
