My local event was held at the weekend. I sneaked up for a couple of hours of yesterdays pre-race climbs. The commitment from these guys is outrageous! Panning shots are difficult to capture! lol.

We were at Doune overthe weekend and unfortunately did a lot of damage to the car, my son rolled it at Junction.

If anyone has pictures of the accident, or even better video I would appreciate a copy, We are not entirely sure what happened and pics/video might help.

It was a a red Fisher Fury No 255.

Thanks
Murray

eek

Sorry to hear that, I didn't realise the Fury was rolled, just thought it had a particularly nasty meeting with the barriers.

Was an otherwise fantastic weekend, and some of the guys were properly "on it" - great show from Martin Groves to set the hill record again bow

When I asked Murray the same question yesterday, his reply was; "aye, he's fine but I think he'll be sore in the morning".

Cheers Eric, I remember when I had my 'big one' at Doune, the next few days were very painful. As I recall it took me 3 days to remember all of the accident in detail, it kept coming back to me in bits and pieces. So much for Steve McQueen in the movie LeManslaugh

First time I had ever gone to Doune to spectate. Wasn't sure what to expect really.
Was a total eye opener. Didn't realise the road was SO narrow and the cars went SO fast.
Must look even narrower from the drivers seat I guess. eek

ETA: I didn't ask how your son was because I took no news as being good news - ie I knew if he had been seriously injured, we would have found out about it yesterday.

(just incase I look heartless!)

Thanks for the concern, he is fine, I thought he would have some aches this morning, particularly his neck as witnesses said the car rolled more than once, and he ended up wrong way up so I expected he would have bruising from the harness but he seems to have no effects at all.

He is feeling guilty about that, he thinks he should be hurt considering what he did to the car.

It certainly demonstrates the benefit of the full cage.

Murray,

shocked to hear about the accident, but glad all is well apart from the car.

There is one shot here of what appears to be the car static on the grass after a slide, but having never been to Doune I couldn't tell where it was taken:

Murray,

We were at the top of East Brae and were watching the cars entering meadow and saw the accident. It looked very spectacular and the car did roll more than once. Once the car came to a rest upside down there was sudden hush as everyone feared the worst due to the severity of the accident. When your son emerged and was walking around there was great relief amongst the viewing public. There were a number of comments made that it might have been a different story if not for the full roll cage. They might not look that nice but they do serve a purpose as this incident proved. Glad he is OK.

Thanks guys.

It probably looks worse than it is, the chassis looks to have survived, the bent bit at the back is unbraced and is just where the bodywork is mounted and the petrol tank etc is hung from, so I think I can just replace that bit, along with wishbones, fuel tank and sundry other items, I think it will be next season though. On the bright side it means there are a couple of extra marshals available.

Cheers

Hopefully not at Alford (assuming my car remains unsold).

Seems like as good a time as any to register with PH and get my first post up!

I too was at the top of East Brae and saw your sons crash. My other half Sally was quick enough to get a couple of pics as the car came to rest - apologies about the quality but we managed to leave the 200mm lens at home and had to make do with 70mm!

In the first photo I think the car has stopped rolling and is just sliding to its resting place (second pic). You can see the impact loaction on the armco where the missing fencing is, just above the 206 and toilets. My recollection is that the car went quite high and end-over-end, as well as rolling - but I may be wrong. You can also spot the medical guys hastily exiting the rescue vehicle! Glad to know they didn't have to do much for your son, as Dave said for a moment or two everyone was pretty worried.

Ben, I think it must have been you and your other half that were standing next to me at the top of East Brae. Your images show just how lucky the driver was and the benefit of using a full roll cage.

Thanks Ben

The more I hear and see of the crash the more incredible it is that Neil came out without a scratch.

Murray glad to hear Neil is Ok but I bet you he is sore today. Doune can inflict an amazing amount of damage with just the smallest off. Vicky excursion into the trees at the esses cost me a set of wheels and a new tyre but luckily no suspension damage that I have found as yet. You'll need to butter up Kiltie for a shot of the liliac machine.
