I've just been speaking to Mike Ward who is the curator of Grampian Transport Museum (a registered charity) in Alford and he is looking for a small number of "interesting and fast" cars to take part in their Supercar event on Thursday 9th July (afternoon event from 1pm to 3:30pm).

This is a very popular event that they run several times during the school holidays and brings lots of visitors and valuable income to the museum, as they get the chance of a passenger ride in a "fast and interesting" car.

Essentially you will drive a couple of laps around their track with one or more passengers at a reasonable pace, having lots of fun in the process.

They are normally oversubscribed with offers from various owners, but this year a few of them are away on holiday and unable to make it.

Extra Information:

GTM will fully insure you (public liability) and your car for any accidental damage.
You will get a free lunch if you turn up at 12:00
You will also receive a £35 fuel voucher

GTM will organise the loading of passengers into cars, and manage the queues (it is a popular event!)

There will be regular breaks for drivers and cars to cool down if required.

You will be bringing a smile to many people's faces.

I have volunteered my car and services during the afternoon, and was hoping I could get one or two more who are free that day and could help out.

Please email me on john@sidc.co.uk if you think you could help out.

Hi John,

Sorry but I'm offshore that date, I would loved to come over and see their faces.

My car maybe isn't particularly suitable (not sure exactly what they want) but would have volunteered my services anyway if I wasn't in work that day.

Do many people attend on a thu afternoon?

Is it worth skipping off work to pop along? Wouldn't mind a supercar spin.

How much are the passenger rides? What cars deffo going?

I was there with the Evo a few years back and it was very popular with the public. Was nice to take the kids for a spin and see their faces when hurtling down to the corner at 95. Most will have memories of that for life i would imagine! Mike has invited me to this one on Thursday but the car's in bits after someone switched the barrier magnets on at Doune a few weekends ago.

There is no cost to get passenger rides, though you do have to pay to get into the museum (£6 per adult I think), so you get to tour around the museum, and then afterwards just queue up for passenger rides.

I believe it is a popular event smile

I could maybe take a run up from Edinburgh, what time does it kick off and when does it finish?

I was there last year and was a range of cars such as an original Cobra, 2 Sagaris, a Lotus Espirit, few Morgan's and an Evo. Has been the F50 in the past. Is well run with people marshalling queues, and drivers can have breaks if the car needs to cool etc. Was 2 laps of the track per passenger.

This sounds excellent! I'll definitly be trying to get the day off work to come down for a passenger lap or two. Top marks to the guys for letting the riff raff into their pride and joy!

Many thanks to those who have volunteered. Looks like we have an excellent selection of cars for people to get passenger laps in!

I think I have replied to everyone who has kindly volunteered their services so far, and copied in the museum curator as well so he knows you are coming.

Thanks

John

I already have Thursday booked off as I've got the girlfriend's grad ball on Wednesday night - might see if I can persuade her to take a run to Alford on Thursday wink

What PH's are attending and in what? Just so I can come and say hello.

Cheers,
Tino

I'll keep an eye out! Recruited another 2 petrol heads to come with me as well. Just to recap here, as a potential passenger, do we just turn up and join the queue...for free? Seems to good to be true!

You pay 6 quid admission then its a case of joining the queue,
But if you guys miss out on the vette I'm sure we could organise something closer to home.

Give it big horn if you see me on the road up.

Cheers

That up at the Hilton? I'll be going on the Thursday night instead, otherwise could have looked out for you.

If I remember right (could be wrong, or they could have changed the format) then you pay the admission cost for the museum and get 2 tokens to use on the two cars you'd like and queue up for them (each car has individual queue).
