Please note all following events happened to a friend...

Basically friend was doing about 75ish along the straight before the flyover, which is ofcourse nsl.

Didnt notice the police car on top of the bridge untill late, didnt realise there was some type of camera.

In the interest of preperation of a potential brush with plod, does anyone know anything about this?

Friend assumes it was for speed, but didnt recognise the camera. Anyone know what type it was, where they were aiming.

If it was at the line where the 70 turns 40, they are in for a mega payday. Rarely see anyone doing less than 60 over that stretch.

Any help appreciated.

Likely to be a DVLA van. That stretch has been a 40 for over 2 1/2 years though.

I've seen DVLA there a few months ago - If I recall, there was a camera clamped to the bridge? I wouldn't worry about it if I were your friend.

no, it was a police car on the bridge with a tripod but i didnt recognise the camera, ie it wasnt a mini gatso and there was no one operating it.

A good nights sleep and I am sure I will be ok on the 70 stretch but if they are looking for people speeding on the 40 stretch, I swear every car on the road will be getting a letter through.

Guess I will just have to sit out the two weeks, but I am feeling more confident about it now.

As a side note, I have seen 4 police cars driving over the bridge these last two months.

2 slowed to 40, as did every other car, it was actually hilarious to see everyone doing 40, looked so strange.

The other 2 were steaming up the outside still doing 60-70, naturally without flashing blues.

Why? remains the question...

That 40 limit is pathetic.

Actually it is a disgrace.
Why should a country like Scotland have such a poor section of M'way that the authorities feel it requires drivers to negotiate it at village speeds.

I think its because the bridge is basically fked, so keeping the speed down keeps the vibrations down. They had 2 very expensive shots at fixing it, both of which seemed to do f-all.

There was one yesterday on the overpass by the Kildean weigh station outside stirling yesterday, drove past it (over bridge, not motorway) was just a marked vectra with "tax scan in progress" scrolling across the LED screen in the rear window. There was a (white) cylindrical shaped marked scanner/camera on a tripod facing the northbound lane, with an officer manning it with a radio, presumably for forces further up the road.

I'd guess your mate's in the clear, touch wood.

yeah but it's only for about a mile. Westbound you've got the paisley slip road, then the airport, then the 737 slip.. Eastbound you have crazy tourists leaving the rental car park and driving straight on to the slip and slamming the anchors on at the top. It's a fairly crazy stretch, and the bridge upgrade did nothing but narrow the lanes. When i'm on that stretch i close my eyes and scream like a girl til i'm out the other end. My mate lost control of his car there once and ended up in the budget rental car park 50 foot below the motorway.

Apparently its because the engineers mucked up with the barriers so the lanes had to be narrowed, thus the speed limit had to be brought down. The police cars doing 60 - 70 might have been checking the speed of other cars so blues and twos would be a give away.

I travel this every day and often see the plod with victims where the hard shoulder starts Eastbound just after the Arkleston on slip.
Either average speed cam it like it was during construction or raise the limit to 50mph I say! 40mph is a revenue raiser from the unfortunate sods who get caught imo as it does f'all to stop some people doing 70+mph which is dangerous for cars joining at sub 40 from Paisley W/bound (bad on-slip and some hesitant, poor drivers).

Anyway 8 weeks of the Arkleston bridge being raised 6" "@/@" WTF??!! should ensure we can only dream of 40mph anywhere near the flyover.

I work in Johnstone so I go over that flyover everyday. I didn't notice anything though. What time did your friend see it?

It was about 7.15 this morning when I was there.

For some inexplicable reason, they have, as part of these 'improvements', put shellgrip strips down on the bottom third of the Eastbound on-slip corner at Arkleston. I used to love sliding round that corner. I could have cried when I saw it.
