I need to buy a good crash helmet (car), and some race boots. Wondered of there's anywhere nr Edinburgh with decent stock? Cheers.

You could ask in two wheels by the cameron toll shopping centre. Its a honda motorbike garage but they should be able to help.

Most motorcycle helmets are not eligable for motorsport events, besides he also wants race boots.

Correct - online will be your best bet, although you should really get a properly fitted helmet, not just guess on size.

Well could you not go to two wheels and try on the different brands of helmet to find out which brand suits your head shape the best and then buy online from there knowing which brand to go for rather than just taking a stab in the dark?

It is a real shame that there does not seem to be anyplace in Scotland to buy motorsport clothing, I bought my most recent equipment from Demon Tweeks at the motorsport show, that way I could at least try it on before buying - though they will exchange anything so buying online is not really a risk.

Could there be a market for such a shop in Scotland, maybe as an add on to a tuning facility or similar ?

Back in the 70's and 80's Sportstune at Cannonmills used to sell all the kit, but by the time Bill Boroman was ready to retire the online market had taken over and Demon Tweaks emerged as king.
There certainly seems to be a big markup on helmets, overalls etc. though if some existing business were to take it up. I would imagine though that the biggest problem would be the volume of stock you would have to carry given the different makes and levels of overalls, sizing etc. And then there is the relatively small size of the market here in Scotland. Food for thought for someone though.

JS Accesories in Hamilton have a big selection of helmets including arai and shoei. Try the helmets on in there then order online. Their staff are really good, made a point of getting my mate to check bike certified helmets were ok for track days before selling him one.

There was a link posted in the track days forum for V2 Sport and Pro helmets the other day. Theyre SNELL 2005 approved and half the price of the cheapest MSA approved offering from Demon Theives.

Thanks all. Yes, I just wanted to try on before buying, but I do have old helmets (about 15 years old!) which I can get sizes off and probably try online.

Will want them for racing as well as trackdays, so need car specific helmet, just wondered if there was somewhere I didn't know about. Cheers.

Check " The Blue Book" (P168) to check standards.

Safety should be your first goal. We always take a trip down to Chester to Demon Tweeks as trying the fit of all your equpment including the seat is very important. Its like insurance its worth the money when you claim.
