Going to the cinema (Belmont St) with some friends next Saturday.

Our usual haunts for dinner are:

Prime Cuts
Malmaison
Olive Tree
Simpsons
Bistro Verde
Moonfish Cafe
Silver Darling

but want to try somewhere else in the vicinity of Belmont St.

Any ideas?

Anyone tried The Stage Door recently? Or Fusion? Or The Foyer at HMT?

Cheers,
The Left Hand

Fusion is my fave at the moment.

It's absolutely spot on for me but I can see it perhaps not being quite right for others.

I don't eat a huge amount so it's not uncommon for me to leave half a plate or wrap stuff up to take home for the dog.

In Fusion, I have three clean plates.

I particularly appreciate the service - efficient and friendly.

Cheers,

Another vote for Fusion here. The portions are just perfect. You never feel like you've overeaten and you get to enjoy each course.

I was there with my much older business partner who was doing his utmost to chat up the very pretty waitress. Kudos to her for dealing with it and having sufficient banter to flatter the old man!!

I'm booked up there for my brother's 25th so looking forward to it!

Interesting, I looked at it in the EE and following on from comments above regarding the portions in Fusion ...

Generous would be too insubstantial a word for the giant-sized portion that appeared before me.

Two-and-a-half big fillets of cod sat atop masses of juicy spicy sausage and black pudding.

But there was more; sautéed potatoes and a big helping of seasonal veg on the side made my main course mountainous.

In truth, the size of the portion was a little overwhelming, even for someone with a big appetite like me!
biggrin

BTW John, don't suppose your lottery ticket came up at the weekend - did it? wink

How about The City Bar. The new place, just round the corner from the Illicit Still.

I had lunch there on Friday, and very nice it was too !! Apparently the Restaurant upstairs is first class.

We went out to the Stage Door on Tuesday, last minute thing for 6 folk, really good. Fusion had the lights on and looked open.

Never had a bad meal in Fusion, always enjoyed it.

Had lunch in Cafe 52 the other day. Good grub, reasonable price and gorgeous waitress!! It's on the Green, "below" Union Street and roughly on a line with Back Wynd.

new owners since that review. (not that vast portions is a negative in my book....)

sadly not Eric, and the Elise is crying out for some maintenance to keep it alive!
