Anyone see the transport ambulance with the major police escort yesterday? I was just about to come onto the Bridge of Dee roundabout as the traffic car appeared and stopped traffic - closely followed by a couple of bikers doing the same. Then a minute or 2 later the ambulance appeared and headed for the A90 south, at which point the bikes left and the car continued the escort.

Assume it was something serious for all that, but wondered why it wasn't you're standard 'paramedic' type ambulance?

There's an exellent youtube video of a police escort. The bikes (I think they're called Pointmen) shoot ahead to block junctions and roundabouts, and continually leapfrog each other to allow the vehicle being escorted a smooth path.

The bike that leads the escort vehicle is called the Easy Rider (how cool is that), and he sets the pace, depending on the feedback he gets from the pointmen. The whole operation was really smooth, and when I watched it, I decided that I wanted to do that with my life - until I clicked on a Red Arrows video and forgot all about it smile

i saw a similar thing booting up king street months ago, only the car they were escorting was what looked to be Average Joe's silver X Trail and chubby/pregnant wife in the passenger seat holding on for dear life.

This tends to happen if the police have advance warning of an ambulance needing to get to the hospital ASAP esp at busy traffic times. I have been in the back of one from Wick to Inverness and a police escort met us as we came into the city as we had given plenty warning. Might have been an RTA where there already were plenty of police cars at the scene. Would not have been a transplant as there are no organ transfusion services at ARI.
