Best Driving Routes?
Discussion
C'mon guys, in preperation of more runs in the future. Lets be having your best roads for driving. Please bear in mind people might actually go and explore some of these so any potential dangers might be good to mention, also what they are best suited for ie some roads such as carron valley road always make it into topgear top 10, but is only any use if you drive a cateram or atom.
My nomination is back road from Nairn to just North of Aviemore, a good 15 miles or so undulating road, can see for miles, good straights, visible corners, excellent long distance visibility, very quiet and suitable for any power/speed of car. Great great fun
2nd place would be stirling to lochearnhead (through callander) right, down to crief, auchterarder, down to glendevon and left to kinross. quick blast upto kelty and back behind knockhill down to dollarbegg, backroad to tullibody and back to stirling. no cameras, quiet roads altho a bit touristy for first half!

was out on the bike a few weeks ago and drove from Finzean to Ballochan, air borne VERy easily.
Huntly- dufftown- Rhynie - Huntly
or longer, huntly-dufftown-tomintoul-cockbridge- finzean-stonehaven- cairnomount - aberdeen and back again... I recall one of the aberdene lot posting a link up a few months ago doing a very similar loop from portlethen... done that 2-3 times myself. its a proper hoot!

Going up to Lochearnhead along Loch Lubnick is a good road i'd agree, although if you don't know it there is a few tight corners with adverse cambre. Continue up past Lux Toll (stop at green welly of course)and head down oban road. Some nice straights and good sweeping bends. Can come back through Glen Coe, although that would probably be about 3.5 - 4 hrs drive. Or turn right at Lux Toll and go through Killin??
I also love the roads up past Inverness, which i've travelled many a times when going away walking/climbing.
I would be up for arranging a driving day, meeting at Stirling and going past Callendar or past Knockhill way. What do you think flipflop? Even if half a dozen went, it would still be a blast.

Not a bad shout KMM, suggest doing your run but backwards, Stirling to Loch Lomond up west coast Inverary, Oban. (amazing point at top of one of valleys with a car park to video cars coming up the view/noise would be amazing) Oban to Crianlariach. Lunch at Green welly down to Killin, Kenmore, Sma Glen, Crief, Comrie, Loch earnhead and back to Stirling.
You on the run on 23rd, Could knock about a suitable date and look at some initial numbers. In the meantime I'm always up for some impromptu reccies.
Anybody else suggest a good tunnel run or tight vally for the noise brigade?

Yup, i'll be there on the 23rd. You're ment to be meeting us at the Grangemouth services to head through with the rest of the guys from Falkirk. I'll make sure we have a chat, i've got the yellow S4 avant.
Cheers
Kenny.

I was on a drive yesterday (as a passenger) which took in Callendar, Tyndrum, Oban, Inverary, Arrochar and Balloch. Classic route that I've driven many times before but always fun. Traffic was horrific yesterday though, not much of a chance to get clear runs at the roads due to the volume. Plus a group of 20 MINIs kind of causes chaos wherever they go...
Happy to discuss routes on the 23rd
Would suggest we always keep exact route info off the site for obvious reasons though.

sounds like a plan, we can sort a date, keep a route secretish and get the email adress's of those on the last runs from si and paul qv for the invites.
Whats the thoughts on either a) anybody talking a friend into doing the run a half hour in front "to ensure road safety" or b)everybody donates a quid and we pay some blighter to be our scout, ahem, sorry - road safety officer?

There are some terrific roads up there and I would be keen to join you EXCEPT, you suggest driving BACKWARDS? That's far too scary for me and I have more forward gears than reverse
A quick chat on the 23rd and then maybe a pup meet to discuss further. If we try to do it all on 23rd we will need a longer lunch time. I wonder how many people have looked at this and know we are planning a "Stiling run"
Since you started the thread flipflop, you can be project manager/organiser. Also means any blame stops at you???????????? Only kidding, we pay road tax & insurance, so everyone can drive where they like. How you choose to drive is up to each individual.
