As above.

Does anyone have an up to date, definitive, plan for a crawl?

The crows nest has re-opened with an odd polish inspired name by the looks of it... I think a few of the harbour bars have been cleaned up a bit the last year or so.

The usual bars must be included in the plan, new crows nest, peep peep's, characters and the one next door to that, moorings, then up market street. Cant remember the others off the top of my head.

I was in a pub at the bottom of market street recently (on the west side of the street, no idea what it was called) and there was an incredibly foxy polish barmaid. fking lovely so she was.

As you were.

The owner or the spaniel ? wink

I recall being in there with you a while back and there being a dog running around, no idea why we would have been in that part of town other than we were about to board a boat or had just demobed from one.

I'd been at ASDA (Bridge of Dee) and badly needed a pint on the way home. I was disappointed to find Peep Peep's closed but now remember it's only open at weekends due to the owner's ill health.

The Neptune is a fine establishment. I was talking to the owner about its history and it was quite interesting.

The deeds he has date it back to the late 1700's IIRC but at that time, it was Church of Scotland property in the name of a local minister. It became a licensed business in the early 1900s.

Now this was interesting to me as the building looks incongruous in its surroundings since it’s single storey. I’d always assumed it was relatively modern for this reason and the fact that you can’t see the granite for the rough-cast and white-wash.

The reason it’s single storey is that it was hit by a bomb during the second war which destroyed the upper floors. After the war, a decision was made that rebuilding would be too difficult so they just stuck a roof on what was left.

... and Wallace is the name of the dog, not the owner.

Cheers,

Eric smile

... just remembered one more thing ...

The original building didn't face on to York Street as it does now.

It faced on the a (long gone) road behind where OIL is now - called Neptune Street ... hence the name. biggrin
