Nowhere to push my car to it's limit?
Discussion
There isn't anything like an airfield in Scotland which has a track you can use, is there? Somewhere with big run-offs. Knockhill doesn't feel safe for my purposes and a skid pan isn't what I'm looking for either.
My current ride is a boxster and I'm itching to find the limit of it's grip safely at speed. While I can get the tail out in slow corners I really want take it past it's limit at varying higher speeds, throttle openings and turn in.
How much do the BiB monitor the AECC carpark
Failing that, what is the most northerly English facility?

I've been told Crail is my best option, and it just so happens that there's a TrackScotland day there very soon. Crail has loads of tarmac'd runoff area apparently (although it's a bit rough in places). However, I still don't think a trackday environment is the right place for what I want to do: namely find out how my car behaves when I drive like a c0ck...

I would say crail too think there is a event up coming soon.

A video of me a few years ago driving like a idiot on a slippy Crail trackday! Needed 2 doors and a full respray after colliding with some truck tyres

Thanks for the replies everybody.
I'm in the same boat as "a11y m"...Crail doesn't look to be what we need unfortunately. It still looks too small and tight [usually a good thing I know
] but not for safe high speed driving madness.
TBH, even if it was a wider track I wouldn't be happy playing around during some kind of trackday where there are others there.
I reckon I'll have to widen my search.

Why not just do a normal track session at KH? Surely better to take time exploring the car up to the known limits, and then slowly raising the bar and working on catching/holding it rather than just putting the car into monster over-the-limit slides? Unless, of course, you want to be a drifter; but that's not really in a boxter's character. Thing is, I think unless its wet, you're going to struggle for much drifty/slidey fun in a boxter.
My take would be if you want to juggle 4 balls, you don't start with 4; you start with 1 and work up. So why not start 'within the known limits' on a track day and then work up larier from there?
If you're not convinced with the track day idea with other cars around, why not book up KH for a session with an instructor. They run a few of these each month (in the summer at least). The track will only have a few cars out, each with an instructor and you can push as close to the limit as the instructor thinks you're up to. They won't restrict your speed, but they'll keep you safe, ride shotgun in your mirrors, and you may find you're exploring way beyond what you think are the car's limits right now.

It's not local but http://www.carlimits.com/ sounds like exactly what you want. Takes place on an airfield with plenty of tarmac and nothing to hit. You will get to lose control (and be taught how to regain it) from 10-110mph as well as plenty of other driving instruction.
It's a long way but it's well worth it.

Yep, I completely agree with you there. I wouldn't want to cause disruption through overcooking my playing around...I'm still on the look out for a decent-sized quiet carpark in the central Scotland area

The car limits things look ideal though, I've had them recommended before. Shame there's nothing like that up here.

I have to agree with tvrlet too.... why not try and find your limits by WORKING UP TO THEM, rather than working down to them :/
Thats true,Much better to find the "limits" in 2nd/3rd gear than at 120mph in 5th.
The limits tend to be with the driver's abillity anyway and not the car. Very rarely will you find someone who can out drive a modern sports car who is not a proffesional racing driver.
